I love the tied quilts - am working on one now. Tied mine with yarn and have had no trouble with fuzzing or anything else. No reason won't be okay for baby quilts either. They remind me of the really old fashioned quilts from my grandmother's era - and that was long, long ago.

The tails are left about 3/4 -1 in long. The more youpull the more they stay put.

I am going to make a quillow for my GD this weekend. First quillow since the early 80s. Anyhow, I found this on youtube showing how to tie a surgeon's knot. Think I will try it.

I sometimes hand-tie and also prefer embroidery floss to yarn. Instad of tying the knots on the top , I tie them on the back so that you don't see them. One quater inch craft ribbon also looks nice, it is a little harder to pull through though.

SPICE - YOU DON'T ACTUALLY TIE THE TAILS - JUST LEAVE THEM DANGLING?

IT THAT IS WHAT YOU DO, WHY CAN'T YOU INSERT THE NEEDLE ONCE MORE AND HAVE THE TAILS DANGLE ON THE BACKSIDE? THIS WOULD BE MORE PLEASING TO THE EYE.

I WOULD LIKE TO TRY THIS TECH. ARE THE STITCHES SECURE? WON'T COME OUT - ESP. WHEN LAUNDERED?

You could do it upside down and leave the tails on the back side and have the z on the front and the x on the back. Safe when washing.
Try a small lap size and see how you like it. Wash it and verify it is what you want.

Good luck
