I take my quilt handwork everywhere I go when riding with my DH: doctor's appointments, Laundromat, shopping, and traveling to AZ in the winter. It gives me something to do with my hands and still be able to have conversation. All those miles are not wasted. I meet a lot of great people as they can't resist coming over to see what I'm working. I get some great tips from other quilters that way since I'm a newbie to quilting.

No quilting in the car for me---I found that my stitches were very uneven. Good for you that you can do it.
Happy traveling, Kutnso

As long as I keep my head down & not keep looking up & down I can quilt or read but if I look around I'm done.

I take my handquilting and enjoy the ride. Anyone else love to quilt and ride?

For a long time I could not do anything in the car because of motion sickness but Doc told me to take ginger tablets and wala no more motion sickness. Just get the ones at walmart

I like having handwork to do, as DH does not mind doing all the driving on long trips. I have also got a lot done on short trips. I started an English paper piecing project to take along. I have have cut out pieces with a paper bag template, hand quilted rows that I later joined into the bigger quilt, and hand stitched my bindings on the road too.

I knit washcloths usually. Last time we went to Maine for the day, DH said: "What no knitting project today?" I was in the middle of my printmaking class so I guess that's where my creative energy was going.

That is a great idea.... but if I tried that, the quilt would be decorated with undesirable effects. (Reading and any kind of handwork while in a car or train register about a 9.0 on the gackter scale for me.)

I have to keep my hands busy whether it is knitting or sewing while in the car.
