I made one where you did a 25 inch block and appliqued the hankerchief right on it. Looks great. I then put a sashing of 2.5 inches in between each block but set it on the I put it on the diagonal. Then a 4 inch border all around except at the top. I still have it but I don't have any pictures of it but if you are interested I could take some. I also have the patten if you would want it-I think :-D

I will down load a picture tonight. I have the pattern it came out of a McCall's Quilting mag in 1998, called Attic Treasure, if you would like it.

Here's a page on ebay (not my page) that has a few examples.

Oh that is a BEAUTIFUL quilt!!! Those are hankies? WOW!!! Wish I had that kind of talent, but no such luck here. Perhaps someday.. :XD: |
hmmmmmmm i don't think i have a picture of it but i made my husband's grandmother a quilt for her 88th birthday that i used embroidered hankies (that belonged to my grandma...they were close friends) i created baskets of flowers, sitting on a shelf with the hankies cut diagonally and placed on the shelves, hanging down in front so it looked like a doily on the table under the bouquets. ... about 14" baskets of flowers, sitting on 6" shelves with hankie (doilies)...turned out very well and grandma loved that it had the hankies from her dear friend. i toted those hankies around for 15 years before i finally got brave enough to cut one...then i cut 8 of them! i still have a pouch of them...waiting for the next important activity to come up.
