Great gift. You were blessed.

Quilter2B 12-07-2010 10:08 AM

Wow, you made a haul! I have some of my husband's grandmother's hankies - all from the 20s & 30s - there is a butterfly quilt pattern I'd like to make. Unfortunately, none of her great-grandchildren would appreciate something like that.

OH, SmockingRN!!!!! That jacket is just adorable! How precious! Did you add some extra embroidery to it also?

That is a keepsake to hand down for generations!

smockingRN 12-07-2010 11:25 AM

Thank you! Yes, It is embellished with a bunch of heirloom-type hand embroidery. It is lined and has a flannel interlining. Very cozy for little ones!

This is the link I was referring to with the beautiful hankie quilt. I'm sure there are others, but this one really caught my attention.

You're so lucky! I love old linens and have a few from my DH's grandmother and from my grandmother. Yours look almost new. If you decide you don't want them-----send them my way.

Your story brings me a memory, My Mom and her mother and sisters and sisters in law, always used to send each other a card, birthday, Mothers day or ??? and included a letter and a hankie, They were so pretty, and made my mom so happy to open them. Wonder who got them, not me. That was many years ago. Have fun, and be sure and post some Pic and show us what you do with them. Rita

I have some of the table cloths and also several hankies. I don't think I have enough hankies to make a quilt though.

My daughter puts a 'ball' of dried lavender flowers in the centre of hankies and gathers them up with ribbon, then tied in a bow. They sell really well on her craft stall.

Wow! How fortunate you are. My DIL and I made three Moda Hanky quilts. They are absolutely beautiful. The idea is to sew the hanky on a background fabric then use the square in a quilt. I am sure if you go to Moda you will be able to see an example. If not, let me know and I will send you a photo of my quilts (my DIL made two for me and I made one). [email protected]. Yolanda

stitchofclass2 12-08-2010 06:48 PM

I am sorry, I believe I gave you a wrong e-mail address.

Let me know if you would like photos of my Moda Hanky quilts. I have 3.

Merrilin 12-08-2010 09:40 PM

Send some my way. I will go through them with you.

Pickles 12-08-2010 09:54 PM

You are so lucky , great haul :D

roda 12-08-2010 10:49 PM

I know theres no way I can use them all. So as soon as I decide what i'm going to do im going to share. I think theres so old flour sack material that was just sewn up in to dishtowels but never use and theres a lot of old quilting pattern books for the 70 and 80. also some old newpapers from the 30's with quilt patterns
