Happy Solution for Prewash Lesson Learned

Hope this does not happen to anyone else, but I found a solution in case you find yourself in a similar situation.
I had completed a quilt for my soon-to-be-born grandson's baby shower and washed it with color catchers. But one of the fabrics faded in the wash in a most uneven fashion - it seemed as though the fabric was defective and did not hold the color consistantly.

So I found a Sharpie marker called Stained with brush tip that is designed for fabric and dabbed tiny little dots to fill in the missing color.

It looks soooo much better! Here is a picture of one of the faded parts and the "touched up" area to the right and a picture of the top before quilting and washing.

The design for the quilt came from this quilt a long website

wow! good save! I am going to have to find these markers to have on hand for those...just in case...moments. so glad it turned out well in the long run- I would be worried about that fabric though- baby/kid quilts tend to be laundered a lot----is the rest of the blue going to fade away?

Beautiful quilt! From the picture you posted, I can not tell where you touched up the fabric.

I did wash it a second time because I hoped it might "fade" more evenly, but it didn't seem any better or worse. Next time I will PREWASH :)

I did notice while quilting that there was a slight blue tinge on my Machingers gloves, that should have been a sign!

nice save. Nice blog, too.

How weird. That faded spot almost looks like it was bleached somehow. I wonder if the color catcher was sitting on that spot during a spin cycle and sucked up the dye or something.... I'm glad you were able to fix it!

What a good idea. I always prewash fabrics before I use them, but I will remember your tip.

So glad you found a solution. It's a really cute quilt.

Looks to me like you fixed the problem. Not to rub it in, I always prewash all my fabrics. If one is going to be a bad choice I want to find out before I use it. So far I haven't found any bad ones.
