Harbor Freight Blades

I know may comments have been posted about these blades--both good and bad. I opened my first packet of them today and I couldn't cut with them! I had to press really hard to cut paper. I turned the blade around thinking maybe it only had one cutting side--still not luck. I was just so mad that I had to tell someone!

T-Anne 02-04-2012 06:25 PM

Sorry, never tried them so I am clueless! LOL

MaryMo 02-04-2012 06:28 PM

return them! ... defective product.

irishrose 02-04-2012 06:29 PM

I bought unopened Olfa blades on ebay for the same price as the Harbor Freight blades so I have no reason to try them. I'm sorry yours were bad. It has to be so frustrating for you.

harrishs 02-04-2012 06:33 PM

so far, I have had really good luck with them---sorry your experience hasn't been good.

EmbQuilt 02-04-2012 06:37 PM

Have tried 3 packs all bad

Me Too:) I have purchased "brand name" blades and they wouldn't cut. Sometimes you get a bad product, I guess.

kathdavis 02-04-2012 07:38 PM

I heard the same thing about them. Someone said they heard they were recycled blades, which didn't make sense to me.

jillaine 02-04-2012 07:41 PM

I have purchased about five or six packs of Harbor Freight blades. Out of those, one pack was bad. Take 'em back and order from a different batch-- i.e., not the same shipment that you got them from (if you purchased them at the physical store).

charity-crafter 02-04-2012 07:50 PM

Return them. They won't know they have defective merchandise unless we tell them.

Maureen 02-04-2012 08:18 PM

I bought them once and they were fine.

moonwork42029 02-04-2012 08:49 PM

I've used them many time (like now) and not any problems. Sorry you got some bad ones

gailinva 02-05-2012 05:01 AM

I have purchased two packs, one all dull, second a few dull, but the ones that were sharp didn't stay sharp long. I'll just stick with the regular Olfa blades and use my Joann's coupon.

Is this a "here we go again" post?

Harbor Freight has a RETURN/MONEY BACK POLICY. Please use it and let us know that they were good for their word.
Not all Harbor Freight stores have bad blades. I have bought and sold more than 100 packages and never had any complaints. Give them a FAIR shake!

I use them all the time, never had a problem. There is more than one blade in the pkg. Sometimes they stick together. Make sure you only have one in your cutter.

CoyoteQuilts 02-05-2012 06:59 AM

My first thought was that you put both blades in the cutter. There are 2 in a package and sometimes they are stuck together. If that isn't the case, then do take them back... I have bought several packages and have found just one pack that was 'dull', still cut, but not clean. Just changed it out. More gas to make a special trip back to exchange than to open a new package. That one cut paper just fine. Good luck and don't give up on them....

CRELLA 02-05-2012 07:10 AM

mine went in my garbage jar i should have taken them back but didn't

pocoellie 02-05-2012 12:56 PM

I've bought the Harbor Freight blades and have never had any trouble with them. I gave one to a quilter friend of mine, over 6 months ago, and she's never had any problems with them either. I have read and heard that the June Tailor cutting mat will dull the blades. This is the cutting mat NOT the June Tailor Shape Cut Ruler.

If anyone has a problem with the HF blades then they should return them, because if there's a problem and no one returns them or complains about them, how is HF supposed to know and to correct the problem?

intoquilting 02-05-2012 01:59 PM

I have used them and never had a problem with them. I introduced them to a friend and she loves them too. It sure saves money if they work.

marymay 02-06-2012 05:36 AM

I have never had a problem with them. Have been using for 2 years.Maybe you just got a bad pack.

Anna O 02-06-2012 05:45 AM

I have periodic times when a package was bad. Just return them. For the price I just keep a supply on hand.

Stitchnripper 02-06-2012 05:51 AM

I've been using them exclusively in my 45 mm. cutters - I have an Olfa and Fiskars - and they work just fine. No complaints yet.

mrs. fitz 02-06-2012 05:52 AM

Maybe I've just been lucky. I've been using them for a while and never had a problem.

Kath12 02-06-2012 07:14 AM

Sometimes you have the screw too tight. Try loosening it a bit and see if it helps. The first blade I tried it did nothing but shred the fabric, after loosening the screw it worked great

I got some and they cut through the fabric like butter. My friend got some and she had the same experience as you. As they are designed to cut carpet , I imagine if they don't cut fabric , they would be considered defective and you could return them.

petlover 02-06-2012 07:16 AM

I would return them, as I have had good luck with the ones I have purchased from them.

Grace MooreLinker 02-06-2012 07:43 AM

I use them all the time have had several bad ones but the cost you can't complain to much. take them back so the store knows the
product does have bad ones mixed in.
I now need to ffind a good blade sharping tool. The one I've tried don't work very well for me.

Pieces2 02-06-2012 07:45 AM

Same problem here, seems the blades roll on the rotary cutter instead of cutting. :(
Really glad hubby only bought 2 packs.

nanzone 02-06-2012 07:49 AM

I had the same experience - I'm just glad I only bought one pkg.

kathyquilter34 02-06-2012 08:00 AM

I do a lot of cutting with my HF blades and have never had a problem..seems like some do and some don`t..I will continue using them..they last much longer for me then the popular brand name blades..

cat2quilt 02-06-2012 08:47 AM

That is a shame. You should return them. Maybe it was just a bad batch.

lbc 02-06-2012 08:55 AM

I haven't had good luck either.

SewExtremeSeams 02-06-2012 09:06 AM

Have been using Harbor Freight blades, excusively, for over 2 years. Excellent product. I buy them a dozen packages at a time. I just wish I could get them in the 60mm size. But, 45mm will do!

IdahoSandy 02-06-2012 09:31 AM

I tried thos Harbor Freight blades too and they were awful, than goodness I had only brought two blades.
You would think since they would cut carpet, that cotton fabric would be a cinch. Not so.

Me too. They are so cheap if I get one or two bad ones ( which I havenn't yet) it won't be a big deal. If you get a bunch that are bad it must be a bad batch. I am sure you could retun them.

nannyrick 02-06-2012 11:25 AM

My expierience with them was the same. I tried many and none would
cut. I will never buy them again.

kydeb 02-06-2012 11:44 AM

I've tried several packages I bought here in Kentucky - they were terrible. My sister tried several she bought in South Carolina - they were terrible. Some people swear by them........me......at swear AT them!! LOL

quilt3311 02-06-2012 02:08 PM

Sorry you got a bad set of blades. I've used them for several years and so far have only had one package with a nick in the blade. I suggest taking them back, they should give you another package in their place.

quilt3311 02-06-2012 02:10 PM

Just another thought--what cutter are you using? I use the Martelli cutter and they work like a charm with that cutter.
