Is it true that the rotary blades from Harbor Freight are ok to use just ar good as the ownes you get at Joannes? I am going there Wednesday and thought I would pick some up. Thanks for in info. Jean

virtualbernie 04-04-2011 11:59 AM

I ordered a bunch of them--no problems at all.

sewmuchmore 04-04-2011 12:04 PM

Be sure to ask for carpet cuter blade. They are great!!!

gale 04-04-2011 12:19 PM

They don't work well for me. I must have a bad batch. They've all gone dull or skippy after just a few cuts (or in one case, no cuts at all).

YEP!!! They are GREAT!! And even with shipping & everything (I had to order over the website because my local HF store can't get them fast enough) they are only about $1.50 a blade.

jljack 04-04-2011 12:23 PM

sorry...slow computer, twitchy finger!! LOL

luvstitches 04-04-2011 12:39 PM

They work fine except once in a while there will be a bad one in the package. For the price, I can't complain.

Tink's Mom 04-04-2011 01:02 PM

so far, I have had good luck with these blades...they may dull a tiny bit faster, but not by much.

great aunt jacqui 04-04-2011 02:13 PM

I've been using them for quitea while. I think they are well worth the price ...2 in a pack for 2 dollars. sometimes they are on ale for 1.49. I feel they are sharper and last longer and when they start to skip I do not think twice about poppin another in, whereas with the brand name expensive one . I will struggle until I am close to tearing my hair out. we all like to save $$.

GrammaBabs 04-04-2011 02:16 PM

Hummmmm are they just called "rotary blades" in the catalog... my DH has that book around here all the time.. will have to check it out!! They just opened one somewhere around here, so maybe i'll take the ride with him someday!!!

Stitchnripper 04-04-2011 02:20 PM

I have had no problems with them in my rotary cutters. No skipping or anything. Sometimes that happens if there are two blades in by accident.

But mine skipped right out of the pkg (for one) and after about half a quilt worth (lap size quilt) of cutting for the other. On the other hand, I had cut at least 5 lap quilts plus other small projects with the old fiskars one I had in my cutter.

gale 04-04-2011 02:21 PM

Maybe if harbor freight was local for me I'd be more willing to keep trying but it's an hour away and not anywhere near any shops that I usually go to.

Ramona Byrd 04-04-2011 03:28 PM

They're very good, or the ones I've had have been.

My daughter asked if there was anything I wanted I couldn't get around here, and I told her Harbor Freight blades.

They came today, 10 packages of 2 each!!! Love them!!

And I have the best kids, they actually listen to me!

mom-6 04-04-2011 03:49 PM

One pack I got looked like it had been opened and taped shut. But it still cut quite a few pieces before giving me grief.

pocoellie 04-04-2011 05:26 PM

I haven't had any problems, seem to be just as sharp and last as long as the "name brand" blades.

If no one has answered this for you yet, they are NOT Rotary Blades. They are 'Carpet Blades' for their carpet cutters. 2 in a package and 3 in with the carpet cutter handle. For the price I can toss 3 if they don't last as long and use the 4th forever. I bought 10 packages a few months ago and I am still working on the second package I opened. I dropped my cutter and put a nick in one right after putting it in the cutter, but didn't feel bad tossing it....

Ann L 04-04-2011 06:22 PM

I haven't tried them yet. Having a friend come visit and that is one of our stops while she is here to stock up.

Lucy90 04-05-2011 04:12 AM

I have ordered them and love them. I have had no problems.

roadrunr 04-05-2011 04:30 AM

I just picked up two packages to try, but haven't used them yet. I'll buy more if these turn out to be good.

rannyof3 04-05-2011 04:45 AM

they are "carpet cutter blades".

Linda Loo 04-05-2011 04:53 AM

I love the ones I bought. No problems at all!

quiltmom04 04-05-2011 04:58 AM

I got a bunch and they are just fine - only cheaper than Jo anns.

Yes Jean they are fine to use I bought about 10 pkgs at $1.98 each compaired to $4.98 at Walmart.

Edie 04-05-2011 05:11 AM

I just finished cutting 35 12" blocks - started last October, finished most of the cutting this morning! Am still using the same blade from Harbor Freight! Beat that one! Edie

There is no name I don't think. All it says here is 2 pc. Item 97642 Central Forge Replacement Carpet Cutter Blades. I haven't had to buy any for quite a while now. I think I got 16 packages, and like I said, I have been using the same blade since last October and it is still sharp.

Ask for carpet cutter blades - It is a black, red and yellow package with plastic over the top and on the back it says Distributed Exclusively by Harbor Freight Tools.

I hope this helps you - load up lady!!!!! Edie

JNCT14 04-05-2011 05:38 AM

I like the Harbor Freight blades. I found they don't dull as fast as the Olfa ones.

rfbrazell 04-05-2011 05:47 AM

Jean,
they are and might also be better than the commerical ones you buy at Joannes. When you go to harbor frieght ask for carpet cutter blades. Here in WA state they are 2 blades for 1.79. I just bought 10 packs and the guy at the counter said you must be a quilter.............LOL
Robert

ann31039 04-05-2011 05:48 AM

i just got 15 packs for 1.59/2pk. 6 packs were for my sister. i was nice tho and didn't get all 20 pks that they had. i left 5 for otheres. lol

aggie 04-05-2011 05:49 AM

I wrote the original complaint about them. I don't know what happened but I am having fantastic results now with the same blade and cutter. I never changed the blade. I wonder if the angle might be a little different and I had to adjust the way I cut? It's still sharp and never misses. Maybe I had to press a little harder. I don't know. Sooo, if like me, you were having trouble forge through and keep trying. LOL

foxxigrani 04-05-2011 05:57 AM

Because they were cheap I guess lol. I used the same blade for fabric and feed sacks and still they don't skip as bad as the expensive ones I got from Joann's I have had this blade in there since the day I bought the first package and its still going, thru paper feed sacks fabric all the same. Its starting to skip now after months, but the expensive ones I have had experience with since starting to quilt 12 yrs ago, would come out of package duller than the HF blades so yes they are worth it.

Judie 04-05-2011 06:00 AM

I've been using mine for a long time now.. perhaps a year, and have had no problems.. I ordered a bunch and have given quite a few to my quilting friends.. they are great blades for the low low price! I'll never buy another rotary cutting blade from the quilt shops unless I just have to.

colin' s grammy 04-05-2011 06:39 AM

I am in a prayer quilt group at chruch and we use them all the time, they are wounderful and the money you save is well worth the trip

paristx 04-05-2011 07:22 AM

I've had good luck with them and bad luck. In my opinion it is worth the price even if a few of them have nicks in them.

DonnaB 04-05-2011 07:24 AM

I love them, no problems, they come 2 to a package, make sure you only use one!

Nanaof4 04-05-2011 07:44 AM

I love them and haven't had any problems with them. They're always in stock at my HF. Hubby even picks them up when he's in there shopping and I'm not with him. What a guy!
