I call it that for lack of the name. I had one when I was a little girl that my great grandmother made. It was a combo of flowers and squairs and instead of tying it, she sewed little buttons in the middle of the flowers and squairs and on all the corners. The buttons were small and flat and all different colors. When I moved the box it was in got lost, or thrown away, and I lost it forever. I loved that quilt and would love to make one for my grandaughters... has anyone ever seen one like that, or did my great grandmother just come up with the idea on her own.
Just curious. |
I've seen this done, too. Sounds like it was a well loved quilt.
Depending on the age of the kids, you may have to forego the buttons. But by all means, make the quilts. They will love them becauee you made them. |
How sad that you lost it! I haven't seen one, but it sounds really neat.

My very first attemt at a quilt was secured with tiny white buttons instead of tying it off. It was a whole piece top with a flannel backing and it lasted for close to 25 years. It was used heavily and I never had a button come off of it, the material just wore out. It takes a long time to put those little buttons on though!

I have! Someone on the board here did one. It was so cool!

I have seen several of them. My friend used to do that for her older grand children(4-5 and above). Also remember seeing one in a quilt magazine a few years ago. I think it was American Patchwork and Quilting.

I made a quilt for a friend and used buttons in the flowers to add to the SID quilting. Once I started, of course I had to stay the course.....168 buttons. sigh - but she loved it.

I am sorry you lost your quilt. How sad. I have never seen one but think one would be really neat as a wall hanging.
