I have just been in hospital, after coming home I couldn't rake up any interest or energy to quilt, thank goodness it has come back this week. I couldn't imagine life without sewing

I have recently hit a "snag" in my quilting. I have no desire to sew anything. So during this time, I am going through all of my fabrics; folding them nice and neat, cutting off odd ball sections, cutting all of the scraps into various blocks and the need to get back to creating a quilt was popping up all day today. So hopefully it will not take much longer and I will be back at the sewing machine.

I went through a slight depression about 6 years age. I lost interest and then I knew something wasn't right with me. I got a prescription of wellbutrin from my doctor and took it for 9 months and worked with a counsellor. I finally came around and all my favorite interests came back -- crochet, crafts, sewing and quilting. I never want to be "there" again. I am happy again. My patient husband was a great supporter. So, yes, depression can be a cause of your mom's loss of interest.

A few times I've had a quilt that I started to actually hate and never touched it for months at a time.
But if your Mom is getting rid of her stuff, couldn't you ask for it and her machines? Then if she should want to quilt again in the future you would have her stuff safe. What you hadn't quilted up, that is. |
Sometimes people get overwhelmed with all the choices, possibilities, gadgets, books, etc. Once she downsizes, I would ask her what her favorite forms of making quilts are and favorite colors/fabrics and patterns. Ask her to save the bare minimum to quilt and get her a few of her favorite fabrics. Once all the "stuff" is out of the way, she may spend a little time each week quilting.

No, but i wish it was a cheaper hobby, sometimes there is so much I want to do but do not have the funds or time

I think about giving it up! I waited 33 yrs to start quilting due to all the time it takes! Busy raising a family, working, life. Now I have been quilting for almost 4 yrs, childrend raised, working ft and still not much time to put toward it! So little infact, I think of giving it all up, but I won't. I just start another quilt!

It hasn't happened to me, but I guess I would have to find another passion. I have been making quilts since I was 22 and I'm almost 62
