it shows you the curve foot which could be used for any curves. Has anyone used this??? Does it work? They claim you do not have to use pins.

bjeriann 12-22-2010 02:41 PM

I just watched that video - It looks great. I want to know if it really works too.

I have one and it's so nice!!! I used to make this quilt. Oh, ya...and no pins which is awesome. You just have to take your time and go slow and keep lining your fabric up.

amma 12-22-2010 03:00 PM

I do the same thing with my 1/4" foot, no pins too. Try it using the same technique she uses, holding the top fabric up. Practice how close/far you hold the fabric.
You really do need the tweezers on the last little bit
I love this method :D:D:D

Love this quilt!!!

Here's a video posted a while back that shows how to do curves without a special foot.

I tried it, bought it twice! The first time I could never get the hang of it and sold it. A few years later I tried again. No way Jose! I guess I just don't have the eye hand co ordination for it. I do better with pins. But I seem to be in the minority.

carolaug 12-22-2010 03:16 PM

thank-you!!!!

Me, too! I still have mine and one day I'll dig it back out and try again, but for now it's pins for me.

OOOOHHHH!!! Another challenge for me!!! I am on a spending diet so if I can do that without buying a special foot, I just may do curves. Another project for after the holidays.....

gmaybee 12-22-2010 05:59 PM

I've never used it, but a friend did an apple core quilt with it and she loved it.

thepolyparrot 12-22-2010 06:09 PM

I really love this foot - if I had known that it worked as well as it did, I would have bought it a lot sooner.

Really fast Drunkard's Path blocks and NO PINNING!

stitchesnstaples 12-22-2010 06:46 PM

I just bought one about a month ago. There is diffently a learning curve. But, once you have it, it works great.

LivelyLady 12-22-2010 07:23 PM

I bought one last year on sale at a quilt show. Love it!!

patdesign 12-22-2010 07:32 PM

One I hadn't seen and I thought I had too many things! One more to add to list! Like the looks of this and thanks for the links to u tube everyone,.

Babs194068 12-23-2010 03:09 AM

I have had this for three years and still can't get it to work. Must be me she made it look easy and so did the salesman that I bought it from.

kalady 12-23-2010 04:01 AM

BUYER BEWARE!!!I have one and I own 2 Pfaffs it is such a disappointment. I watched the demo at a quilt show and was so impressed until.... The claim is that it will fit any machine- for some Berninas you have to buy an extra adapter. Well as it turns out, to make it work on one of my machines you have to remove part of the foot assembly every time you want to use it and on one older machine it rides so low after trying and trying all the adapters and emailing the curve people you can barely get the fabric under the feed dogs- have to drop them and wiggle. The curve people were basically of the mind that you bought it and it is a pain to install or get to work - too bad.

SO be very cautious- mine is a waste all around- for my specific machines. Anyone want to buy mine? Make me an offer.

I have one I have used it several times and it is just like sewing a straight seam. You have to hold the material up slightly. That is the trick. Get it you will love it.

sandraphippard 12-23-2010 04:41 AM

Hi,
I bought this foot and I haven't tried it for curves yet, but love it for giving me a scant 1/4 inch seam. works better than my 1/4 inch foot.

Julie in NM 12-23-2010 04:46 AM

Have it. Used it twice. Found a better way...Sew 1 inch from the top, sew 1 inch on the bottom, and then sew from top stitche to bottom stitching. Have to sew slowly and make sure the top piece always matches to the back. Never have a problem with end matching!

grann of 6 12-23-2010 04:54 AM

I have a foot that came with my machine called a blind hem foot. It has a ridge under it that the fabric rides against. It seems to me it would work just as well, and without spending any money. I will have to try it "in my spare time".

quilt3311 12-23-2010 05:12 AM

Yes, it does work, takes a bit of a learning curve, (at least it did for me--grin)but once you have that down you can do curves very quickly and accurately.

websydhan 12-23-2010 05:14 AM

Where can I order one of this foot?

applique 12-23-2010 05:22 AM

I have used it and made my blocks a smidge larger so I could trim them to the right size. Then I decided to applique the curves instead! For me this is even faster!

Sold it for $100

happymrs 12-23-2010 06:54 AM

I have one too, but to be honest, watch the video doing it without one! You don't even need it, trust me! It just takes a little practice. Just take your time sewing these curves & do like the video shows & they will come out great! I would say, if you like curves, put that money towards some of the templates the backporch site sells! I have all 3 size sets & love them. Now that is money well spent!...

kellen46 12-23-2010 07:40 AM

yes it does work, like everything there is a learning curve, but it is a short one. I hate sewing curved seams but this makes it much easier. For us Bernina owners you will need a foot adaptor. I have two because some times bernina does not have the specific foot I want. An adaptor means I can use any low shank foot.

Mattee 12-23-2010 07:42 AM

Where can I buy it?! Anyone have a link?

Yes, I have used it. It's OK. But I think you can just as easily do it with a regular 1/4 foot with a blade.

I just watched the video, pretty neat. I'd like to try that sometime soon. Thanks for the topic.

I have used the curve foot for about a year now and love it. I still use 1 pin to mark the center of the edges just to make sure I won't be out of whack when I get to the end. I think it would be well worth it for anyone.

crankygran 12-23-2010 04:30 PM

I bough this from Nancys Notions more than a year ago but have never even opened the package. Bad Crankygran!

There is a yahoo group - sew its for sale - that you can post an in search of ad. That is what I did and got the curvemaster foot for $8. And I love it! I made a drunkards path in no time at all. It is as easy as the video shows after you try one or two curves.

At $8, I'd recommend you get 2 or 3! On the Curvemaster website they're about $30. After a couple of years mine broke from overuse, I guess. I can cut blocks for a full size quilt in one day and sew them all in one afternoon. I know it can be done with a regular foot, but I swear by this one.

So do I. It works great. Just have to learn to hold that top piece up as you sew.

dlf0122quilting 12-23-2010 05:50 PM

I have used one and it is wonderful, very accurate and easy to use. Good luck.

Sadheart 12-23-2010 06:02 PM

Awesome Thanks Ladies for the idea and the tips.

IBQUILTIN 12-23-2010 07:31 PM

Does it fit all machines?

nursie76 12-23-2010 07:36 PM

Got one at the Lancaster quilt show in March. Haven't tried it yet, but hope to do so after the holidays. Hope is works for me as well as it has for some of you.

Merry Christmas!

cheryl rearick 12-23-2010 07:55 PM

Oh my goodness girls you just made my day. I just finished a table cloth with the drunkard's path going around it. Fought those pins. I am going to practive holding it like Amma does. hmm practice and practice. Thank you ladies for showing both ways.

fireworkslover 12-23-2010 08:17 PM

I've used this method, but just used a regular piecing foot with a 1/4" seam. Yes, it does work, just go slow and it works fine.
