I've been giving gifts in pillowcases made to suit the recipient. It has been so much fun finding fabric they "like" that suits their interests......
(and it's a very GREEN thing to do, too :mrgreen: ) |
I make drawstring bags as well as cut out fabric pieces to iron onto paper bags.
Are you asking about using the paper bag idea??? OR making your own home sewn type bags??? |
You can us a simple bag pattern and fuse 2 fabrics together. You could use a used gift bag and carefully take it apart for a pattern. Press in the folds and add a handle.

I was just looking through Nancy's Notions catalog and saw a no-sew reversable bag. It was made with fusible web. Maybe you could work something out that way. Go to her web site if you want to take a look at it.

My guild makes gift bags every year to give to a migrant worker's daycare center, filled with Christmas gifts. Here are the directions: You take a rectange of cotton Christmas fabric....you determine the size whatever you think will hold your stuff....I use a pinking blade on my rotary cutter so I don't have to fold down the top and seam....fold it in half, right sides together.....insert an 18 or 20" ribbon folded in half in the seam so that it's on the right side of the fabric about 1/3 of the way from the opening, and seam up the side and bottom catching the ribbon in the seam. Oh, and be sure to put the
ribbon inside the folded rectangle. Turn the bag right side out and you're done. The two strings of ribbon wrap around the bag and you tie it in a bow. I can make a bag in about 5 minutes. Good thing is that you can make it using this method in any size you want. |

I am having a hard time visualizing this. Which way do you fold the fabric rectangle in half...so the bag is deepest? Also, when you fold the ribbon in half, do you mean fold the width in half or the whole ribbon is folded in half length wise? Thanks much!
