I would ask my friendly neighborhood long armer if they have batting scraps they would like to get rid of! I seem to have bags of the stuff and I don't quilt much for others!

They really are easy to make... the first two turns require a tiny bit of pushing...but after that, just let the machine do the work. Having your sewing table level with the machine is pretty crucial...but there are ways to “design” a level table if your sewing table isn’t flush with your machine. I Love the idea of using a panel.... I have several that I found in estate sale boxes that I won’t use as a panel.... goody goody...more rugs!!!

A blog I subscribe to called Carried Away Quilting featured a darling rug made from a jelly roll and a roll of cotton batting. I found several places that sells the batting- it's 2.5 inch strips on a roll. Wondering if anyone has made one and how hard/easy was it to make. Thanks! Susie |
I have made 4 so far, I currently have one under my needle as I type this, and I have 4 more cut out waiting, and my neighbor and I went to our LQS yesterday where I bought fabric to coordinate with some fabric I had to cut out two more, and I have fabric coming in the mail from Connecting Threads that I will use in some more jelly roll rugs. Can you guess????? I love making these. They are so fun to make.
Iron and steam alot, best press the corners if you have some. I iron and steam after every corner for the first 3-4, after that only if I feel it bowling up and not laying flat. I use my walking foot, even feed makes a big difference. Use a jean weight needle. I use poly thread, cotton skipped in my machine,even with a new heavy needle. I use my extension table. ease in your corners by holding the rug as you build it with your left hand, and push and "scrunch" your sewn fabric tube with your right hand. Youtube has lots of great tutorials, and Pinterest has links to blogs with great tutorials and tips. Enjoy. They are a lot of fun to make. |
If cutting your own batting, you will be happier, as in it will be easier, if you cut the batting 2 1/4" instead of 2 1/2". I don't find the rugs difficult to make but time consuming. And if using precut purchased strips and batting, expensive.

They're quite easy to make. Requires a zig zag stitch. I won't tell you her secret to make it lie flat. Gather supplies and support other crafters |
