I need some ideas. I bought Vegie tales soft book and I want to make a quilt out of it. Does anyone have any ideas. I bought it at fabric.com.

My friend is just doing that with the "Night Before Xmas". She cut it apart and bordered each section sort of like a "log cabin" affect, but only one border. Then she plans to sash when they are all done. She alternated green and red borders around the blocks. Looking very cute (used Patrick Lose marble material and it is very bright, colorful, christmasy. It is going to be gorgeous.

Here is a camping one I did with a soft book panel.

Thanks Murphy, I guess I'm going to have to draw it out so I get a visual.

I made a baby quilt out of a soft book. It works really well. The possibilities are endless.

That is so cute--Great idea Thanks

Here is a quilt I did from a panel...I am sure you could take any panel pieces and work it into a quilt really easily.

Off hand, I don't remember if the panel blocks were 9.5 or 12.5, but there is 1.5 inch sashing (green).

I've been thinking about doing one like that but haven't picked a book yet.

I love the Yellow Brick Road pattern. What a great idea. I just happen to have books that were my kids and thought putting them into a quilt would be fun.

Hi. This was only my 2nd quilt and it was very easy. My DH asked me to do one for a co-worker's shower on a Friday after he came home from work, and he wanted it by Tuesday for a Wednesday party (yikes, I went into panic mode). He picked out the fabric and off I went with much trepidation. But it turned out very cute and it was hard to give away. Of course, the process was so fast that I really did not have much time to get attached to it. lol. Have fun with this - I sure did and it gave me a lot of confidence!!!!

I love these, I have so much to learn. I have seen these soft books, didn't know what they were called or what to do with them, so this post is great.
UP NORTH, I've been through your town on vacation - camping - and I love your quilt. Don't know where you got the fabric, but it's great. I was looking for camping fabric for backing and found it in CA on a trip from here in DE. I'd like to make something like yours if I can find similar fabric and you don't mind a copy cat.

Copy away! I made it for my grandkids we spend 10 days camping every August, Where did you camp? I ordered the panel off the internet but I don't remember where. Someone else on here also used it. I used glow in the dark thread on some of the embroidery designs.

reginalovesfabric 11-17-2010 05:47 AM

yes I do that all the time. Cut them and border ....after Christmas there are some bargains on soft books

AnnT 11-17-2010 06:04 AM

What a cool idea! I have a soft book and have been meaning to put it together. Think I'll try this...put it on my to-do list for 2011!

moonangel12 11-17-2010 06:30 AM

I just bought a Noah's Ark panel with a quilt in mind for a friend. Thanks for a few ideas. I'm a little stuck b/c of the odd number of "pages" so I might be starting my own thread for ideas. Creativity is not my forte, but the internet is great for ideas to "borrow" ;)

Marysewfun 11-17-2010 07:39 AM

Debbie - I love your musical kitten - he makes me giggle each time I see it. My husband asked me what I was laughing about it and when he saw it, he couldn't help but chuckle! Very cute !! :-)

JS 11-17-2010 09:01 AM

I have made them many times. i used fabric with different dogs etc. They are easy and fun to make.

kriscraft99 11-17-2010 09:03 AM

oh all of these are GREAT! What a wonderful idea :)

Daisydoodle 11-17-2010 09:25 AM

Our quilt group was given several soft book yardages, we make Linus Quilts. They turn out so cute and are a real comfort to children in the hospital. A warm snuggle cover and book all in one! good luck!

Popcorn 11-17-2010 09:28 AM

Odd number of pages can be difficult, but they can also add creativity to the back of a quilt. I have been known to make a quilt and use the "title/cover" page of the book as a pocket on the back in which I put a storybook in that goes along with the panels. I can't wait to have grandchildren in which I can make a quilt out of multiple storybook material and match the different materials with books. (Always looking for an opportunity to encourage reading to your child! Must be the teacher in me!)

That's a good idea! I have a wooden rattle I was planning on giving as a secondary gift, I could put it in the pocket! I think it has 10 or 13 pages so just taking one to the back would make things MUCH easier!

blackbearbetty 11-17-2010 09:44 AM

Is this a pattern you used? If so what is the name of it.
