I am going to make a square pillow with a closing so the cover can be removed and washed. I plan on putting a zipper on it; would you think that is feasible or should I use velcro? Anyone done this?

Either way will work depending on the look that you want. You would insert the zipper or velcro on the back piece before you sew it to the front. If you are using a zipper just remember to have the zipper partially opened before sewing all around the pillow.

I always put zippers in pillows. What style are you making? (fabric type, ruffles, cording, plain sides) You can find a place for a zipper in almost any pillow!

I've never done a zipper but i did do one with an opening in the back. Both sides came past the center so that they overlapped about 6 inches. It looks nice and snug and is easily removed. I can't think of the name for it now... maybe envelop or placket.

I put zippers on my pillows alot. Just put the zipper in first, makes it much (easier) then finish the rest of the seams.

I agree put zipper in first sooooooooooo much easier!

Zippers are great for pillows....but definitely put the zipper on the back first....saves dramas later.

I put zippers in my pillows. I place the finished front of the pillow (right side up) on the finished pillow back with the zipper (right side down). I stitch around four sides and add a binding.

I put zippers in most of the pillows I make.
