Gotta write it down. Lots of friends would happily take your stuff and at a time of grieving, it's one less thing for your family to worry about.

This is a novel idea. Did you see it done someplace or is it just your idea. I like it.

Since I like to hand quilt, I have several tops in line to be quilted. I thought of this last week. I will leave money to have them machine quilted and given to relatives when they marry.

I know I don't have as many things as you but I'll probably be adding things in the future. I told my daughters to donate my sewing stuff to a seniors quilting group. We don't have one right in town but I'm sure they could locate one. When my friend comes here this year from Germany she will be amazed. She already told me I have more than she does and that was 4 years ago.

Interesting that this should come up. I have been cleaning things out, I just freecycled about 2 dozen older (vintage) sewing books and quilting books . One I realized I had since it was new. Better homes and gardens sewing book. 1971. I may have used it 5 or 6 times. I know that I will never make quilts with templates again. sitting tracing cutting with scissors etc. So some of those went. I am only keeping technique books . I am remeasuring and wrapping my fabric. If I don't think I will ever use it for anything it will go in a pile/box. I already weeded out my sewing machines. I am going to tell my brother that they are to be sold and the money donated to my favorite humane society. In the next year I am going to get my UFO's done and rid of for the most part. I am not buying any more fabric (mostly) unless its to finish a project.I know there is not one person in my family that gives a flip about my quilting. So I will get to see where it goes this way.
When my grandmother died and I went to clear out her place I was amazed there were no clothes or much of anything left. A few baubles thats it. I think she did the same thing the year before she passed.

this is a nice idea but since I am not having a funeral that won't work. No service of any kind. They can do what they want as long as it doesn't cost money. I don't have it and neither do they. I want any donations to go to a local animal rescue. In my mind its better use of the money than flowers. My body is being donated so there is no cost there either. :-) I am one of those people that think funerals and all the money spent on them is a waste. And if you don't care enough to come see me when I am alive do something else when I am gone. :-)

That thought really helps me control my spending. I have tried so hard to get my daughter interested in sewing but she thinks it too "fussy"...groan I have tried to tell them the value of things but you know they will never remember. I need to start a list of different areas, crafting, jewelry, furniture, etc. My ex mother-in-law had a name on the bottom of everything with masking tape and everybody knew what was going to be theirs and if something wasn't marked, she asked everybody if they wanted it...

I love your point of view, I don't want people coming up and thinking, how did they stuff her into that casket, doesn't she look good...heck, I don't look good, I'M DEAD! I think I would have to raise right out of the casket and choke someone so I do not want a funeral! I would like to save my kids the grief of the funeral expense and be cremated or like you said, body donated to science or an organ doner but I'm not so sure they would want the diabetic body with all the organs failing...

I kinda get a kick out of the fact that my kids will have to clean up my "train wreck" sewing room! Pay backs..that't how I look at it! Hope I can watch from heaven or...where ever I end up!

My mother was meticulous about putting the name on the bottom or back of each expensive item she had of the person she wanted to inherit that item. When she died the grandchildren and my brother only wanted her jewels, oil paintings and grandfather clock. Even other items valued at hundreds of dollars were deemed "not their style" and I was left to dispose of everything. I don't want anyone to have burden when I die. So Everytime a child comes to visit I tell them, If you want it, take it. It makes my housekeeping easier. When I get tired of dusting something I am trying to get rid of it. When a shelf has too many items on it, I weed out the collection. If it is hard for me to get rid of my own stuff, think how hard it is going to be for a child to do it.
