I have not tried any purses but would really like to and since I love this fabric anyhow...I was thinking of getting the quilt if you think it is not too complicated for me.

Thoughts?

Go for it....you can do it. A quilt store near me was having a class on this pattern and the cost of the class was $40.00 plus supplies and pattern.

First make on using cheaper fabric..get the pattern figured out and then use better line of fabric..

Good Luck

In October I went on a quilting retreat and the lady who was next to me made this purse. It was adorable and the pattern in on my list to buy because it came out beautifully and was a great size.

mamaw 01-16-2010 05:55 PM

I have seen that purse done in many different fabrics and it is a beautiful pattern. Actually, one that I want to do for myself. A friend made herself one and I just adore it.

I was signed up a week ago to take a class on making this tote. Due to teh snow, they cancelled, but the class is going to be rescheduled.
The sample purse in the shop was reallly a nice size, just the right anount of pockets for me, and not too big. I don't usually carry a tote/purse anymore, but this one caught my eye.

The class cost $30.00 plus fabric and supplies. I already have the fabric so I think I will still take the class just to get some pointers and to get out of the house.

I made this last summer and thought it worked up rather easily. However, I do remember thinking that it was a good thing I had some prior sewing experience.

Here is my bow-tucks bag:

Hello:

I have one cut and that was easy. The pattern is written well. Many of my quild members made them for Christmas gifts. I know you can do this bag. They had a local hardware cut a pexiglass bottom.

DeniseB 01-16-2010 07:04 PM

Hi, it is a great pattern. I have made alot of them for gifts and have 3 listed for sale.

You can do it just read the pattern through before starting and take your time.

BKinCO 01-17-2010 05:39 AM

This is a really cute pattern! Give it a whirl!

Lockeb 01-17-2010 05:46 AM

I wanted to try bags for a change and ordered one from Connecting Threads..it was an Open City Tote Kit - but I can't find it on line this morning....I bought the kit to try it and thought that if it was fun I'd make some out of my stash fabrics....

beckyw 01-17-2010 05:58 AM

Go for it. If you have a problrm just put it on the board.

Lockeb 01-17-2010 06:01 AM

Ah, here's the link for the pattern and Kit that I ordered... http://www.connectingthreads.com/Fab...it_KD2434.HTML
It should arrive next week....I thought that it was a great buy to try out...would make great gifts.

butterflywing 01-17-2010 12:39 PM

if you're buying it for the fabric, then give it a try, why not. if you're trying it for the pattern, then the internet is loaded with free wonderful purse patterns.

Go for it! I did one in a class in an hour & then I made a few as xmas gifts it fun & easy!

crkathleen 01-18-2010 07:52 AM

Thanks Butterfly for the link! My computer crashed and I lost all the freebie sites. Now I get to restart my collection!

watterstide 01-18-2010 07:54 AM

Connecting threads gives very clear cutting and sewing directions..at least for thier quilts. I would think it would be the same for thier sewing patterns. You go for it!

kay carlson 01-18-2010 08:06 AM

Penny Sturges wrote the pattern and it is very easy to do.
Go for it!!

Karen's Kreations 01-19-2010 06:37 AM

I've made that bag - or one very similar. It's not difficult - best advice I can give is read all the directions first and then follow them one step at a time. Enjoy. I love mine.

I just finished a tote from this pattern. It's really an easy pattern to do especially if it is your first one. The quilting part is easy if you have a walking foot or diferential feed. Just be sure to attach the guide to the foot that lets you measure from your beginning set of stitches so that your quilting is equal distance. Just follow the instructions.

gmafrog 01-19-2010 07:26 AM

I've done several of these. Quite easy to follow, direction wise. I changed the length of my handles. Adjusted them for my long arms!! Also didn't put as wide of batting in the handles as it called for. I would suggest making one exactly like the pattern then changing what you wanted to on the fabric you really like!!

polly13 01-19-2010 07:29 AM

I have that exact purse packed and ready to take on vacation. The directions are clear and precise. My colors are turquoise/purple/black. It receives many comments. I love making bags and purses and have several. I have had individuals stop to ask where I purchased my purse in the past. Certainly beats Vera Bradley prices and you always carry one-of-a-kind. Once you've made one you'll be hooked so go for it!

darlene palmer 01-19-2010 07:47 AM

Yes I made this bag. It isn't hard at all. I've made three of them. The tuck is just a pleat. Have fun with this bag.

nativetexan 01-19-2010 07:52 AM

i think lots have been made by crafters/quilters at hgtv quilting and needlework forum.

DianneK 01-19-2010 08:10 AM

I have made 2 of the bow tucks purses, love both. Direction are clear

craftmama 01-19-2010 08:38 AM

I've made this bag and I love it... I agree with Karen.. read all the directions first and also, try and stay away from directional fabrics. (to much thinking)

dlf0122quilting 01-19-2010 09:06 AM

I have the pattern and have made the purse and love it. Several in my frienship group also have made it. The only suggestion I have is decide how stiff you want it before you make it because I used the fusible pellon they recommend and mine is not stiff at all, some gals like theirs to "stand at attention", I wanted mine a little softer so the fusible pellon worked for me just fine. It is a fun purse to make. Enjoy.

IowaQuilter 01-19-2010 09:12 AM

That pattern does not look hard. I made my first purse in December for a Christmas present for my DD. It was fun to make and she loves it! Go for it and enjoy!

Sugarpumpkin 01-19-2010 09:50 AM

I think you should go for it!

I haven't tried this pattern yet but I want it soooo bad!

RedGarnet222 01-19-2010 10:04 AM

Many have been posted in the pictures section. I bet if you search .. there will be a few to look at. I have that pattern, but I haven't gotten ot it yet.

Yes I like the smaller bow tote purse for my every day use. I probably will never buy a purse again. I love all the pockets. The larger tote is good for an over night bag. My daughter likes the larger one because its big enough to put her small son toys in also. she always keeps something in there to occupy her son.

I made this purse just this month. This was my third purse I ever made. You just need to read and reread instructions before you start cutting and sewing. Easy to make mistakes.
I thought the pattern could have had a couple more pics. of certain steps but otherwise a good pattern. If you need help when you start just ask.

I have made several purses/totes, and really like this pattern. guess I better get started, as soon as I find this pattern. Love the fabric colors.

Nan C 01-20-2010 06:26 AM

I have made several and so has my daughter we have given them as gifts and have several for our selves.

They are great and they can be washed. I just love them and you can make them to go with any outfit.

Once you make one you will see how easy they are.

Good luck

johnniek 01-20-2010 06:45 AM

pony lady 01-20-2010 06:57 AM

johnniek 01-20-2010 01:42 PM

I made some of the little ones for my granddaughter's girlfriends for Christmas. She filled them with small gifts and they all seemed to like them lots, they are perfect of their phones or IPods.
