done and spent also. PAID my car off. Yipee

SouthPStitches 03-31-2013 07:44 AM

We're still waiting on accountant. The agency has had all our info for more than a month or so. Waiting to be told how much we can fund in an IRA and to finalize the returns. This is our first year in retirement status so we have no idea how much we might owe or get back. Also, if this was completed, we could continue with our April travel plans. So we're playing the waiting game.

maryfrang 03-31-2013 08:42 AM

This year done, and filed. Yea Back in February. The last couple of years that was not the tale. So this year I changed my coat. I hope I can keep it up, for the future.

JoanneS 03-31-2013 08:46 AM

That's DH's job. I'm sewing merrily along, but I can hear him growling in his office. Am I gonna take pity on him? No - Im' gonna stay as far away as possible. Maybe I should turn the CD player a little louder ~ ~ ~

Since we own a business (my husband has a small custom cabinet shop) of which I have the honor of doing the small amount of bookkeeping that goes with it. I need to have all the bookkeeping to our CPA to file corporate taxes by March 15. So my taxes are always out of the way by the time others are complaining about needing to get to them. I have the forms to send in our payments before Apr. 15, but otherwise it's all signed, sealed and delivered. Love our CPA! She is worth every penny we pay her!!!!

tessagin 03-31-2013 10:21 AM

Done and spent. DH gets all info together after last paycheck, enters into computer then waits for mine at end of January. In the bank by auto-dep by mid Feb. He uses the Turbo-Tax and I try to keep my records updated on monthly basis. So glad it's done. I procrastinate more than he does, so I don't let myself go beyond the end of the month to bring records up to date. Anything else, yeah, I do have other things I need to get done. :(

Rose_P 03-31-2013 12:44 PM

Usually it's a last minute thing because we always have to pay more than was withheld. This year we came to our senses and realized that since the ready money in a bank account is earning interest at less than the inflation rate (!), we might as well hurry up and give it to Uncle Sam in January. DH figured the taxes and we wrote the check. It's actually a load off our minds. No April tax scramble for us, for once.

Which reminds me of the time years ago when I rushed to the post office near deadline and stuffed the tax envelope into the slot. I pushed it in with my left hand because there were so many they were sticking out, and it would make me nervous to think someone could just grab it. As I pulled my hand back I found that my solitaire would not get back past the edge of the slot, so I was standing there for a few seconds, elbow above shoulder level, with my hand stuck! I was finally able to wiggle the ring around sideways so that the diamond was between my fingers and I got out, but it was a pretty embarrassing situation with other late taxpayers standing in line behind me.

tlpa 03-31-2013 03:04 PM

I procrastinate on the taxes. They are done, but haven't sent my money yet...

Debbie C 03-31-2013 03:09 PM

Our CPA had ours done a month ago. I haven't sent for state refund yet. We have to pay and make big estimated earnings every quarter. I will send everything off this coming week. Has to be taken to post office, big envelopes. State refund won't help much.

Mimiqwerty 03-31-2013 04:48 PM

Done, received, and spent on a new Babylock Crescendo! Whoo Hoo!

gramma nancy 03-31-2013 05:02 PM

All done and back from the accountant, but I have to write checks to both the Fed and the state, so they won't go out for a couple of weeks.

quiltapillow 03-31-2013 05:56 PM

I was up a 5am one moring in Feb. and heard the news man say that all taxes not dated the 15th would not be refunded; all money would go back into the gov. coffers. Not sure how true that is; only heard it once on TV. Ours done in Feb. and got back, added to it and bought a small tractor for our small farm. Not sure!

Jannie 03-31-2013 08:32 PM

When we use to get a refund, dh was the first to mail them out. Now we always have to pay so he waits until the last minute.

DebbieG 04-01-2013 06:06 AM

Done and trying to scrape together the money to send in....owing to the tax man really puts a dent in my fabric fund....how can people on retirement income owe like this??? Something is wrong that we should have to pay in like this!

BellaBoo 04-01-2013 06:35 AM

I was taught at financial seminars I was required to go to at my job if you get a tax refund you are losing income during the year.

grandme26 04-01-2013 09:17 AM

I was going to do my income taxes today but the fabric was calling my name more strongly thanb the tax. I usually have it done and back by now but this year I just haven't had the calling yet.. I know I will receive back most of whaI put in, except for State, but have not had the eurge to do so this year. I still have 2 weeks.

charhend 04-01-2013 02:00 PM

Done...Paid the IRS a lot of money. Had to take out hubby's SEP IRA and mine, pay the accountant and the 1st. quarterly payment. Yep, I just love tax time!!

KayS 04-01-2013 02:36 PM

Done, signed and submitted. Now waiting for the refund - planning to use it to drive to Alaska this summer :) I'm sure they have quilt shops in several of the towns :)

smurfsmom 04-01-2013 04:09 PM

still working on ours too ;)

LenaBeena 04-01-2013 04:12 PM

Our check is already invested.

cdmmiracles 04-01-2013 04:13 PM

procrastinators here too.....we still haven't done ours

Material Witness 04-01-2013 06:37 PM

If your kids are in college, they need the tax info by the 1st week of February for FAFSA. So that is an incentive to get them done.

Gladys 04-01-2013 06:40 PM

Oh my I not only wait till the last minute, I get and extension and wait till the last minute. Every year I say I'm not going to do that but alas I do...

salemrabbits 04-01-2013 09:59 PM

I work now for a CPA, my first tax season.....interesting. The door is open file for an extension if you can't get, them done by the deadline

TeresaS 04-01-2013 10:13 PM

I have not started mine yet either. I sure wish quilting fabric was a deduction!!!!!!

judylg 04-02-2013 04:09 AM

Yuck, but a job that needs done, doing the same and almost ready to take in. Such a miserable job. lol

I dont get much back and Im getting older and if they want taxes done they should make them easier.
If they want my taxes done they can do them. I cant afford to have them done.

If you are over 65 there are many places that will help you with your taxes for free. Try your local library, senior center or township office. If these places don't do them for seniors, they usually can tell you where to go to get help with your taxes for free.

Ashjoy 04-02-2013 04:47 AM

Done and cruising next week!

Cagey 04-02-2013 04:49 AM

I give myself a deadline of March 1 but try to get it done by Valentines Day. That way I have more $$ to spend at the spring fabric sales!

NJ Quilter 04-02-2013 08:36 AM

Just finished mine a little bit ago. Well, at least all the calculations and such. Just need to make copies, sign and mail. We usually have to pay so I normally wait until close to the 15th. This is maybe only the 2nd time in 20+ years that we're getting both a fed and state refund! Woohoo. Not enough to do anything with mind you, but at least we're not paying this time! Happy day!

omaluvs2quilt 04-02-2013 09:05 AM

We have to, they send us revised documents every year and we have to wait til mid-March to do them. I'm waiting for fabric in the mail so I can start the next project...I'm getting antsy! Don't worry, it will be over soon : )

MaryLane 04-02-2013 12:36 PM

I never get a refund. So, I always wait until the middle to end of March. I did ours yesterday (we owe $748). I still have to do my son's. Next year I am pretty sure we will get a refund. So, I will do them earlier. My husband gets so mad about lending the government our money interest free but we have owed more each of the past two years. Time for a little tweaking.
