Hate what I'm doing today

Yep, sun is shinning, fabric and ideas calling me and what do I have to to????? INCOME TAX Do all of you also wait until the last minute? Every year I say I'm going to get it over with right away. Grrrrrr

DebraK 03-30-2013 06:32 AM

done and spent.

narnianquilter 03-30-2013 06:33 AM

Yeah, done and spent here too...but that was mainly because I wanted to use the return to get a new accuquilt die and more fabric...

hopetoquilt 03-30-2013 06:39 AM

I do everything else. I force my DH to do the taxes and he has not done them yet. He has the business finance degree and works in a bank so it is right up his alley. I hate it when he procrastinates! Drives me crazy.

DebraK 03-30-2013 06:41 AM

good for you! Our refund went to property taxes. Funny how that works ;-)

Dolphyngyrl 03-30-2013 06:52 AM

No I get mine done as soon as I get my w2's, can't buy new quilt stuff until I get my funds from income taxes, its my fun money for the year.

susie-susie-susie 03-30-2013 07:01 AM

Done and waiting to be picked up. Don't know if it's good news or bad, guess it will be a surprise. Tried to get it done early, but DH didn't do his share for 2-3 weeks, so it just sat there all that time. At lease it was to the CPA 3 weeks before the due date!!!

luvstoquilt 03-30-2013 07:19 AM

Mine is done. I use a CPA and I had to pay this year. Mailed my check yesterday..feeling poor today but glad it is over for the year!

Raggiemom 03-30-2013 07:23 AM

We filed ours the first week of February. I always do them as soon as we have all the necessary paperwork. It would drive me crazy to wait until the last minute :)

b.zang 03-30-2013 07:29 AM

Just did mine the other night. There's a company here providing on-line service that's connected to our revenue agency so the whole process is really convenient and easy. No more calculator and eraser for me!

MaryStoaks 03-30-2013 07:29 AM

I had mine done by the CPA a couple weeks ago. I used to do them myself but I just can't stand the headaches that I get doing them. For me it's either pay the CPA or suffer!

Scissor Queen 03-30-2013 07:52 AM

I used to just laugh at people that complained about doing one tax return. During peak, which is the first two weeks of February, I would do at least 8 returns in one day and as many as 13 returns. Even the most complicated personal tax returns rarely took me more than an hour to do. Even if they had a business they didn't take more than an hour and a half generally. The lady that sat next to me did farm and corporate returns and those could take several days to do.

barri1 03-30-2013 07:57 AM

Haven't started mine, and I have to do mom's..

BellaBoo 03-30-2013 07:58 AM

DH waits for the last week to mail ours. We have never gotten a tax refund always have to pay.

Tartan 03-30-2013 08:43 AM

I woud rather be doing almost anything rather than income tax. I was watching Rock Cental last night on the huge IRS income tax identity theft problem. Very scary and the thieves are so brazen about it they cleaned out the refunds for a police department.

joyce blint 03-30-2013 09:27 AM

I hate what I SHOULD be doing today...cleaning house for Easter dinner tomorrow! I guess that's why I'm on here. Son and Daughter are bringing lasagna and grilled pork for main dishes. I have the vegetables, salads, and desserts ready. House isn't bad, maybe I'll wait and clean when the little ones go home!?!
Yeah, that sounds like a good idea!

patchsamkim 03-30-2013 09:35 AM

Even though I usually get money back...I always procrastinate. I am working on mine today.

Yup...every year! Drives me nuts too, then he wants me to hurry and sign them so they get in the mail on time!! I gave up the nagging long ago.

barny 03-30-2013 10:14 AM

Husband does ours and he is one of those, get up early and get it done. No waiting around for him. If I had to do it I'd run off. That's why I have himLOL, But I love him to pieces.

seamstome 03-30-2013 10:20 AM

Done and I would be willing to pay 1-2% more in tax and have a FLAT tax rather than do it this way. Hate saving all the receipts, this is deductible, that is not!

nygal 03-30-2013 11:09 AM

We NEVER wait until the last minute to file.

susiequilt 03-30-2013 11:27 AM

There are still two weeks to file! Not late yet.

kaelynangelfoot 03-30-2013 12:37 PM

Did mine last week. Took all day Saturday and several evenings after work. What a waste of time... barely going to see a return this year.

fien777 03-30-2013 01:02 PM

we have to send it in before the 1st of april so it's gone.
pain in the ass each year again!!!!

Teeler 03-30-2013 01:03 PM

Done & spent, BUT...

Yes, I had to blast through CHORES this morning because I had put them off (let me tell you how fast dust bunnies multiply when you're not paying attention!) for so long. Same situation as you, different enemy in the battle :)

Hope you will be able to take a break and get your quilting fix!

quilt1950 03-30-2013 01:08 PM

Done but not submitted. We got an amended 1099 last week, and I haven't looked to see what changed. Not sure I want to know. We had a refund, but it will just roll into the 1st quarter estimate.

decky 03-30-2013 02:56 PM

We always do ours the last minute, cause we always have to pay in more. We both work part time and claim 0 and then send uncle sam and state 25 % more each quarter and still end up paying in.

carolaug 03-30-2013 03:01 PM

same here.. ; ( love it when people complain they don't get enough....they should be thankful not to have to pay in...UGH..Oh well...

Luv Quilts and Cats 03-30-2013 03:01 PM

I have not done mine yet. Will do them Monday.

Pam B 03-30-2013 06:56 PM

Well, this is the first year in 12 that we have not had a child in college and here in IN we always had to have our taxes done in Feb in order to file FAFSA on time. So...this year I have procrastinated...finally sat down this evening to organize all the paperwork for the accountant. DH will take it to her on Monday. We had a major change (on the plus side) in income (due to a transfer of farm property) and I am really afraid we are going to get 'hit' pretty hard. I am already getting a sick feeling in my 'gut'.

mine too :)

Nammie to 7 03-30-2013 07:44 PM

Taxes are done as soon as all paperwork is in. Our appointment is the first part of February - we have a small ranch so hire the taxes done - I don't know how to depreciate a cow!

Reba'squilts 03-31-2013 03:32 AM

We put everything in an envelope and sent it to our tax person 2 weeks ago. My DH complained the whole time he was sorting which papers he needed. Not as much as when HE used to do the taxes! It is easier when retired! Poorer too!

twinkie 03-31-2013 03:40 AM

Don't have to do income tax anymore.

KathyE 03-31-2013 05:11 AM

DH does ours. They are sent in but haven't received our refund yet.

Boston1954 03-31-2013 05:15 AM

Mailed a few days ago. Looking forward to having fabric money. Oh, and CHOCOLATE money too.

dahlshouse 03-31-2013 05:20 AM

Done and in process of being used to redo my sewing room.. new floor, walls reworked and painted.. can't wait..

Rose Marie 03-31-2013 05:25 AM

I started doing them online but after all the entries and time spent it wanted something that I had no idea what it was so gave up.
I dont get much back and Im getting older and if they want taxes done they should make them easier.
If they want my taxes done they can do them. I cant afford to have them done.

grannie cheechee 03-31-2013 05:41 AM

We get a refund. If I give half to DH I might be able to buy 2 yds of fabric and 1 candy bar. Oh, it cost us $$$ to have it done, but its done, and I don't have the headache. The IRS should make it easier, but then they wouldn't have their high salary jobs anymore.

The IRS is just the enforcer and collector. Congress makes tax law.
