Well as everyone knows the flu bug has been cruising around and my family was not fortunate enough to miss it.

My daughter brought it home with her then I had it and then my wife. Just as I always do, I take care of everyone when they are sick and it was no different this time. But the other day I realized that "Hey my wifes birthday is tomorrow"!! I have been so involved in taking care of the family and running the house I almost forgot it.

Fortunately my wife is doing better and while she was napping I made a quick trip to the Hancocks and picked up yard of Purple solid fabric and 2 yards of poly batting all on sale I might add.

After returning home I checked in on her and slipped out to my studio in the back yard and started digging in my fabric stash. I picked out left overs from her sisters quilt because she likes Hummingbirds and flowers. Earlier this week I finished the top for the "Quilts for Kids" and my wife made a comment about how she liked the pattern. So I melded the two together and 10 hours later she had her quilt top finished!!

I have it in my studio right now quilting it, but she did have something to open for her birthday and she just kept on talking about how she loved it and could not believe I had time to make it for her.

I will post photos of it tomorrow sometime after I am done with the quilting, but it finished out to being 60"x 77" a perfect quilt for her to use when she is watching TV on the sofa.

Hey, can you teach my husband how to be so kind and considerate of his wife? I consider that I am lucky if he takes me out to eat on my birthday. Monday will be our 36th anniversary and I am making him take me out. He would never take time to make me anything. Keep up the good work. You have a lucky wife.

Lostn51 11-13-2009 06:16 PM

She just loved the quilt I made her sister and when she saw I used some of the fabric from it she said it meant that much more to her.

Now the funny thing about this last month not only did we have this flu stuff running ramped in my home, I cut the top of my finger off while working in the kitchen making a snack for my daughter and I. So I had that to deal with also.

So needless to say it has been an interesting month to say the least.

Happy early Anniversary!!!

I always take my family out to eat every Friday evening its like our date night for us. Now that my kids are 18 and 23 they end up bringing their friends too so it usually ends up being a fairly large production for us to go out. But we always have a great time and everyone looks forward to it.

bearpaw 11-14-2009 05:59 AM

A quilt for her birthday and no cooking every Friday night!! Doesn't get better than that!!!

sandpat 11-14-2009 06:44 AM

Are you for REAL???? That was a wonderful and thoughtful gift...lucky wifey!

Lostn51 11-14-2009 07:01 AM

Now before you start cloning me and giving me the awards and all I am not that perfect. My wife will tell you I do cause her grief every once in a while.........

Not only do I have a bad habit of bringing home sewing machines but the occasional Hot Rod or old car will find its way here and I never seem to want to sell them so I have quite a collection of them, although I keep all of my extras in my barn up in middle TN.

And then there is a steady flow of "junk" coming into my garage for paint and body work (I paint high end show cars and bikes) so she never knows what will be in the driveway next.

Other than that I guess that I am okay............

Billy

cabbagepatchkid 11-14-2009 07:20 AM

Well....(tapping foot) where is the picture? :D I think that it was a wonderful present that you made for your wife and I hope that everyone feels better soon.

blueeyez 11-14-2009 07:36 AM

Way to go Billy! So thoughtful and very loving.

Sandy1951 11-14-2009 08:23 AM

Billy,

Your wife is a very lucky gal! The quilt sounds beautiful. Hopefully everyone is fully recovered from the flu.

You must keep your kitchen knives pretty sharp to cut the end of your finger off. Ouch! :( You probably had to keep your finger well bandaged so you didn't end up with blood on any of the quilts you've been working on.

Billy, it says a lot about you and your wife that your 18 and 23-year-old kids not only want to go out with you guys to eat every Friday, but that they also want to bring their friends. I think that's great.

chamby 11-14-2009 11:23 AM

No you are not a typical hubby. I could not image my husband even knowing how to purchase fabric. He might be able to sew a button on if needed.

sewnsewer2 11-14-2009 02:18 PM

Yeah, I wanna see the pic too! Sounds beautiful.

Mousie 11-14-2009 02:28 PM

awww, a hubby that would quilt for his wife. It's not unheard of on here, but it sure is a super-duper wonderful thing to do, Billy!
And you took care of a sick family, AND you cut your finger!
You are a treasure for sure!

barnbum 11-14-2009 03:26 PM

Awwwwwwwww......... :D :D

NorBanaquilts 11-14-2009 03:50 PM

Can't wait to see the pic

Moonpi 11-14-2009 04:31 PM

Tink's Mom 11-14-2009 05:08 PM

Billy, How many wives do you want???? Your a great catch, and she is lucky to have you....

hmmm, now Lisa, you may have something there...but then again...
don't dash my hopes that my hubby can aspire to something higher...
:? yeah, like that's gonna happen!
Our guys on here, make some of our hubby's look...
well, not like quilter-hubbies, that's for sure. Guess we can't have it all.
Some women just luck out. Billy, guess your bride is one of them
