Have you checked out JoAnn's lately?

Yesterday I went to JoAnn's here in Mobile, Al. and there was a GREAT SHOCK!!!!!!! They have the quilting material, but they got rid of their quilting items for your finishing designs. They kept some needles, thimbles, and a few other things, BUT NO BOOKS, NO BLOCK OF THE MONTH, NO TEMPLATES, NO ASSORTMENT OF RULERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\
I asked if they were closing, the mgr. said no, but this she said, is there company's new policy. I think I will go back to ordering on line. Anyone else notice their JoAnn's deleting their quilting accessories? Just got so depressed because I am on oxygen, walker, and this was suppossed to be a quick trip, an enjoyable time, but I am as I said depressed. Thanks for reading my gripes.

i think it depends on the location of the Joannes - the company changes according to what each location seems to sell the most of- our joanne's just enlarged the quilting department- and did away with one of the craft areas= and carry very little in yarns/knitting/crochet-
sorry your's did not find quilting profitable.
i'm one of those people who Hate walking into Joannes for anything-and avoid it like the plague- but will order on line once in a while- if they are the only place i can get something (mainly because the have a large entrance between inside & outside doors that they pack full of horribly strong scented stuff---it gags' and makes the eyes water just trying to get in the door- so i try to not go there-it's not worth the discomfort of opening the doors-

I live right between 2 Joannes, 45 min each way. I noticed that one of them is leaning more towards crafting supplies but still had a lot of fabric. The other Joannes is called a Super Joannes and they had tons of quilting/sewing items along with their craft supplies. Hope that doesn't change. Now about the prices.....wow! They really went up on fabric, batting, & thread!
Sorry your trip was disappointing; hopefully with enough requests they'll bring back quilting supplies.

I am very sad to hear this and sorry your trip put you in a downer mood. I live 120 miles from both of the closest Joanns stores and one is older and still has a decent selection of quilting goods and the other was just opened last year and half the store is nothing but quilting fabric, supplies and books. They even have six isles of just threads......more than I have seen at any Joanns I have been too.

I am not buying fabric for a while (untill my stash will fit in one room)LOL but the last time I was in Joanns fabric area I noticed there fabric all looked the same to me nothing to really jump out and say OOOHH LOOK AT ME!!! Don't know if I just didn't see anything I liked or if they just didn't have anything new to catch my intrest. There did not seam to be much of anything new there, just a lot of the same.

I haven't been to our JoAnn's lately, but I'll certainly have to check it out. The last time I was in there I did notice their prices have sure gone up. I'm now checking out Hancock's first, especially since they take competitor's coupons.

I am headed to JoAnns today, we live in a small community and there are only 2 LQS in the area. I doubt ours would remove all the quilting goodies, but I will sure check while I am there. Oh, plus we are on the boarder of Canada and the Canadians are over ALL THE TIME shopping at out JoAnns.

I was just in Joanns this morning. Ours still has quite a selection of assorted quilting accessories and supplies.

Havent really noticed any change at our Joanns here, but now, I will definitely keep an eye out. I think this one of the dumbest moves of all time...considering the uproar at Walmart when they started taking all their fabric depts out. Makes you wonder if their corporate people have ever been to one of their stores and if they even care about their customers, dumb dumb dumb. However; on the flip side, this is going to only help out the little LQS's.

My latest surprise at Joann's was the price of some of the quilting fabric as Joann's. I bought some back in November that was 12.99 a yard. I got it on sale for 9.99 a yard but still that is expensive considering that the quality of fabric at Joann's (and other chain stores) is frequently less that at quilt shops - due to the quality of the greige (gray) goods they are printed on.

They were touting this fabric as 'premium' quilt fabric. I bought it because I loved the print. Hope it holds up.
