Has anyone ever ordered from www.Silthread.com? I found 3 products that I've been intrested in buying here in town from Joann's, times being tough, I'd be saving over $30.00 but these items prices are better here & shipping is free. Just wondering, it sounds too good to be true which it probable is & if not I'll only be out of $3.00 which I might also not like the items as much as I think I would.
Would you try it or just use coupons @ Joann's
Thanks for your advice

watterstide 09-30-2011 09:50 AM

never heard of them Jan. But someone will be along that can give you more info,i'm sure.

Prism99 09-30-2011 09:51 AM

Are you sure the spelling is correct? I tried that website and it went to a domain, not a website that sells thread.

What kinds of items are you buying? I have often found better deals online at places like http://www.sew4less.com and http://www.redrockthread.com

watterstide 09-30-2011 09:57 AM

it is here:

Have not heard of this place and their prices seem too good to be true so will be watching to see if anyone has tried them.

watterstide 09-30-2011 10:22 AM

did you read their "about us"..seems like they may have had some issues before.

what exactly are you looking to buy?
can you grab a friend and go to use 2 coupons?

AFQSinc 09-30-2011 10:50 AM

Just took a look around their site. The prices do look almost too good to be true but they are probably importing everything directly themselves which is why the prices are so low. That being said, they may have had supply problems in the past which is what they could be referring to. I've been to places like this before in the City. Just a huge, unorganized warehouse that deals mostly with the trade.

Depending on what you are ordering, it might be worth a shot to save so much. I'm thinking about picking up a couple of things and seeing how they do. I would try them for such a good savings. $3.00 is not too much. Besides, you might spend more than that just getting to Joanns.

Yep, their 'about us' page reads, well... a little off?

AFQSinc 09-30-2011 11:07 AM

I just sent them an email. I don't like that they don't have any telephone numbers that you can call directly. We'll see if they reply.

AFQSinc 09-30-2011 11:14 AM

The email bounced back. I'm not going to order from them and I would suggest others not as well.

jquilts75 09-30-2011 02:06 PM

Thanks everyone I think I'll just go to Joann's & use coupons like I planned on in the first place. It never hurts to ask here before trying out something. Paying more is sometimes cheaper in the long run, less stress & worry.
Thanks agaun

It reads like a translation or a non-English speaker.
I'd really love to order several Clover seam rippers -- $1, are you kidding me! -- but having been once burned by a site like this for a substantial sum, I'm leery or trying another. :(

You're right they do have very good prices, but did you check out the shipping charges. I was going to order 8 pkgs. Clover glass head pins @ $1.00 each and 2 seam rippers 1.00 each for a total of 8.00. The shipping was 24.98 (or very close to it).
You're right I wasn't that foolish.

If there were several going together to order it would be a good thing.

They have phone numbers on their contact page, but I agree if the email bounced...

Obviously English- as - a- second - language folks. Dress forms for $1.00 seems a little weird as do the prices for muslins. With the cutting and marking tools it appears they are trying for the manufacturing market. I wonder if they are a front for an overseas outfit, making bucks with outlandish shipping charges? If you Google Map their addy there's a location but cannot tell much from that. They are not listed as a business at that location.

I see there is an sil thread co at a different address in NYC with www.threadus.com but all I see on their site are thread color charts and the first page of a catalog.

Yellow Bird 09-30-2011 08:16 PM

The 800 telephone numbers are directory assistance.

kuntryquilter 10-01-2011 03:57 AM

Their threads look the same as Connecting threads. Same size spools/cones. I buy my threads from connecting threads for $2.49 for the 2,000 yd. spools. Sometimes 1.74 on sale. Free shipping for orders over $50, so I do a group buy. Have never had any problems with them.

My hubby loves your m/c.

As for purchasing from this company, I pretty much look to the suggestions I get here. If no one else has ordered I do not either...money is just too precious anymore to take chances.

thepolyparrot 10-01-2011 04:45 AM

Even their tagging guns, needles and tags were all marked at $1.00 each - including the Micro-Tack stuff. Maybe you have to be a customer and logged in to see the actual prices?

I'd say this business is either just building and made their site live too soon or they are defunct and didn't bother to kill the site on their way out.

Yep, sounds like translation into "English." I think they are overseas. I would not order from them! (They may only want your payment information.) BE CAREFUL!

ka9sdn 10-01-2011 04:47 AM

I tried to look at their color charts for threads and it just shows zipper colors. Sent an e-mail will see if it comes back.

I would not purchase from them, however, until I heard from a Board member who had and it was a good experience.

The tissue papers and paper rolls look especially well priced for those that do paper piecing. I picked up on the English language issues just reading the first few lines on the main page. Think I will stay away from mail order but if I lived close would definitely go take a look.
If you are only looking for thread there is an exceptional thread place near where I used to live in NC. It is called Thread Exchange and they do mail order. There website is here:
http://www.thethreadexchange.com/
Love walking into the place and finding the huge spools for just a few dollars and they do carry big name brands, metalics, kevlar, and glow in the dark.
It sits next to a uniform manufacturing plant and supplies them with all the thread they need for their badges and construction. If you go in you can purchase the ends of the spools for less than $1.00. Some of them are barely used but when they change over from one run to another they just throw what they had been using into a big container and start with new spools the next time. I run by there each time I make the trip back to visit old friends. I have no affiliation other than being a very satisfied customer.

Prices look great but I don't think I want to order and give them info. (credit card) Too good to be true

BellaBoo 10-01-2011 07:24 AM

I ordered a small bit but the order didn't go through, keep saying processing error. The store is legit, it's in NYC and lots of general good product reviews online about it. But the customer service was lacking even in person.

Went to the site, S C A R Y !!!

What a cute dog is it a Wellesley?

This may sound prejudiced, but their "about us" page reads like it was translated by limited-English speakers -- a little off and ungrammatical. REminds of the "translated-to-English" instructions I sometimes find in cheaper electronic or other products made in 3rd world countries, which may contain very odd English verbiage.

llong0233 10-01-2011 09:07 AM

From the grammar and spelling on their "about us" section my guess is English is not their first Language. It's curious that everything is $1.00 but I'm willing to spend a few bucks to find out what goes on. Results to follow.

For buying cones of cotton thread I prefer www.newarkdress.com or their sister site www.homesew.com. I have bought notions and patterns from them for many years and have never had a problem.

They don't say where they are located. They don't give ANY info. about themselves.
I'd be concerned about giving my credit card info. Yes their prices are way too good.

Alondra 10-01-2011 09:57 AM

"Bonnings"? "Patter Papers"? Gimme a break! Just one glance at the first sentence of the About Us page, and you know this is a foreign company using a very poor translation program. Do be careful - sometimes the lure of saving a nickel isn't worth the risk you take... not to mention the thought of having your identity stolen! Caveat Emptor!

snicktrain 10-01-2011 10:24 AM

Even June Taylor was $1.00 ea. From the largest cutting mat to the smallest - $1. Rotary cutters $1.00. Something's not right. If it sounds too good to be true etc. . . . . . :?
And you're also right - it sounds like an English as a 2nd language person even tho it shows two New York addresses. :?

JanetM 10-01-2011 10:39 AM

Clearly, English is not their native tongue. I would be very suspicious of this site.

BellaBoo 10-01-2011 10:40 AM

I have life loc so let them try to steal my identity.

She is a Westipoo, 1/2 white highland terrier and 1/2 poodle. But honestly I see very little poodle in her, and her temperment is more like a Westie as well. She's my baby : )

lbelkin 10-01-2011 12:24 PM

I went to their website silthreadinc.com and I would put a big red flag on it. BEWARE - Everything on their site has a cost of $100 and the shipping is free. Their address and phone number looks very bogus. I would not buy them

1234 Broadway in New York City, the address for this firm, is a sort of apartment building. Actually an SRO, Single Room Occupany. The company sounds none too stable to me.

LOL, there's a review about the apartment building at 1234 online, it's a huge slam. About the language thing--one of the maps I consulted showed it a block or so away from so-called "Korea Town."
