Impatience is one of my many faults, too! We must be soul sisters.

I've not seen it with the black fabric on top, but our guild just had a demo where you put the fusible on the back of the picture and then cut it apart and fuse it on to black fabric. It gives the effect of looking through a window. I should think moving around big pieces from the panel would be easier to keep your lines straight.

Twinkie,
Google Attic Window quilts and see if there are some examples of what you are looking for. I know there is a book out that shows how to take panels and make them into windows. I used to have the book, loaned it out to someone and it was never returned so cannot tell you what the name is sorry. Hope this helps a bit.

I saw one done in a quilt shop in St George, Utah. She just cut the panel and sashed each piece with black fabric. The sashing was 1" finished. She used wood grain fabric for the borders.

this looks really cool. I love it with the wood grain fabric.

This is one where you cut the panel apart and then sash it.

Donna, yours definitely looks more like twinkie's description of what she saw.
