Purchased cute fabrics, had some in stash, and swapped. Personally I would not purchase FQ's for this.
|
I wouldn't want for us to have to fussy-cut the squares; that would be much too labor-intensive, and I don't think anyone would want to pay the additional money it would cost for us to do that.
So, to keep it simple, what if the fat 1/8's were cut to 9" x 22"? Then you could get several fussy-cut 5" or 6" squares out of each piece. Would that work well? |
That would work well! I'm trying to put together a combination eye-spy / paint box / square in square quilt and regular 1/8ths are too small for the centers, while fat quarters are too big and I've got a lot of leftover material.

Yes, I did all of those to get fabrics to make my grandson's I-Spy. He loves it!! Mostly bought FQs and charm squares for fussy cutting.
I think your idea to package specifically for I-spy quilts is really good!! |
What do you think of these, for groupings? I'm thinking of bundling eight fabrics together, and then people could choose however many groups they thought they might need:
- fruits - veggies - junk food & sweets - domesticated animals (farm animals, cats & dogs) - wild animals - sea creatures - birds & bugs - religious (in case anyone was doing a baptism/christening gift) - sports - holidays - household objects (tools, toys, etc.) - "things that go" - "girly" - summer/beach - music What have I missed, that might be useful? |

Why not do up some charm packs with a variety of fabrics? I have hosted numerous I Spy swaps and I find the smaller prints that don't need to be fussy cut work well, easy to cut.
|
I have made 3 I SPY quilts and Fat 8ths would be good for me, that way I would have enough for more than one quilt.
When I was putting them together, I liked having a mixture of everything, not necessarily for a boy or a girl. A girl can handle a tractor on her quilt and a boy can handle an apron or something (but probably not ballerina slippers). LOL |

I think it would also be nice to offer more variation in packaging... say three, five, or eight in each category. I would probably be in the market of three from several categories but would not want eight from music. Hope that makes sense, others may have diff viewpoints of course! |
