If so, how did you get your "interesting" fabrics?

Years of stash?

Swapping?

Buying bits and pieces?

I'm trying to figure out whether there would be a market for, say, fat 1/8's assortments of, say, animals, or junk food, or vehicles, or... you name it. (And please *do* name it, if you have a suggestion!)

If you've ever been to my site you already know we're heavily into novelty fabrics, so we have the fabrics to draw from.

Yes, all of the above. If there's one thing I've learned from this board and the internet it's that there's a market for everything.

I have gathered all of mine from swaps here on the board.

F8's would be handy :D I wanted a variety of animals, objects, foods, etc.... I was not just looking for juvenile prints, as older kids/adults can get a kick out of these too.
Also, I was not looking necessarily for gender specific prints.

Maybe packs with juvenile fabrics (up to age 5?) and another with all others?

Most of the swaps here have been for 5" squares... so maybe keep that in mind when offering the fabrics... it seems to be a standard size liked.

Mostly purchased cute yardage at various stores over the years. And I have made quite a few to give away over the years too!

My daughter and I bought fat quarters. When she was done with her fat quarters, she gave them to me. Luckily we bought different prints.

I forgot where I ordered them from but I had purchased a set of 6" squares specifically cut for an I Spy quilt and I was disappointed with them. They were just cut into squares without taking the print of the fabric into consider when the cuts were made.

I think fat 1/8s is a good idea, and really the 6" squares were too if they had been cut better. I now have a couple of containers of I Spy type fabric that I may never use again.

I have done 2 I Spy quilts & for both I shopped specifically for fabrics - most of the time while traveling w/DH. The shopping part became an adventure for both of us & a lot of fun. I think there is a market for these, but as LaurieE said, anything pre-cut must take into consideration the item being featured, fat 1/8's would be great, as would sweet sixteens.

I would be in the market for 5 inch squares. If cut right, they would be just what you needed. I've made a number of D9P I spy quilts using the 5 inch squares for baby quilts. Of course it would be best if the print were an all-over print and didn't need to be fussy cut.

I joined two different I spy swaps on the board. Haven't made my quilt yet but grandkids love going through them.

yes to all of the above and for other additions ... alphabet blocks (not necessarily the letters but animals, items for each letter are great to find for i-spy's and alphabet quilts ;)

Could you cut them down into smaller squares, say 4 1/2 or 5 in.? You could still make an I Spy quilt using smaller squares !
