I have long admired a quilt, it is on my avatar, I have been trying to collect the fabrics for it. Now for some reason I am not sure I like it as much. I have all the black and the solid pieces, just trying to get the asian fabrics for the lanterns. I am not excited about it now. By the way this will be my first quilt, I played around with some blocks and got half way around the world, on another one. I had bought some very inexpensive fabric and when I sewed it it looked cheap and you could see through it.
Have any of you ever felt like this. |
Yes, I have.
Once a long time ago I made an Amish Trip Around the World- did a terrible job on it! I got so tired of looking at it that I sent it off to Goodwill and was happy to move on :) |
Been there!I made a crazy quilt I just thought I had to make.Took a couple of years to collect velvets, satins, etc.I donated the quilt to a charity for auction.& have never been sorry. It happens to all of us,jus tmove on to the next UFO. pab

Sometimes it helps to just box it up, move onto another project and then you will be ready to come back and finish this one :D:D:D

Been there, done that. I finally wadded it up and litterly threw it into the closet. Got it out several months later, finished it and I really don't like it but, I don't hate it like I did when I tossed it in there...

I sure had quilting ideas I was stoked about at first and after a while I wasn't. I've had it with the current quilt I am working on. I should of gotten it done before Christmas, but other stuff got in the way and I didn't meet my deadlines. I have also run into a lot of problems and it has made me go "What in the world am I doing?" Its very hard to get excited about a quilt that's troublesome.

When you feel that way its time to go on to another project for awhile. When you come back to it you may be in the mood for doing the original project. Or not. If you put your mind on other things for awhile you just might like it again later. If not you have all that lovely fabric to do somethng else with
|
I say put it away for 6 months, take it out again and if you still can think of nothing to do with it that makes you happy-throw it away, give it away or donate it. Move on and down look back!

Thank-you every-one, now I don't feel so bad, I will move on and find something else to concentrate on.

1. A reminder of how far I've come and how my tastes have changed. 2. Something for one of my DDs to finish some day ....probably long after I'm gone, LOL 3. A stash from which to rob a piece of 'vintage-wanna-be fabric' if I have to repair some other damaged finished oldie. 4. A trade with someone if the guild has another "One's trash is another's treasure" trade day. 5. A White Elephant gift to some over-achiever! Jan in VA |
A reverse applique I worked on/off for over a year. Just last month I took one last look at it and just knew I didn't ever want to see it again....not even in my UFO pile!

Good advice above, Took me 20 yrs to finish an embroidered quilt. After I did the embroidery was sick of it. It is a one and only. Quilting requires lots of enthusiasm, if no fun-- don't do.

I have some perpetual UFO's. Can't bring myself to toss them and surely don't want to finish them. So, I've put them away. I think of how much I loved finding some UFO's from Mom and Ma-ma. Maybe one day a grandchild will discover one of my UFO's and be as excited. If not, oh well, they can toss 'em.

A quilt as you go Log Cabin done completely by hand. I realized that I could never sit still that long, so I turned the finished blocks into wall hangings and sold them at a church bazaar. I still have most of a entire bolt of chocolate brown broadcloth for the back and dust ruffle, etc. When I clean the sewing room, I'll post if it's still good.
I can't throw anything away, but I can give it away or repurpose it. |

Decided to create a scrappy for one of my nephews and in the center of some of the plain blocks I attempted to sew circles ... they looked terrible ... but I was determined to finish what I started. I reduced the overall size of the quilt because I didn't like how it was turning out. Presented it to him on Christmas and he wrapped himself in it and said he loved orange (used orange fabric as backing). Couldn't ask for more. Encouraged him to use it for picnicing
