If so, did you add in a dash of another color? Or stick strictly to just black and white?

suebee 10-11-2011 08:48 AM

I have made a B&W, was going to add a splash of red, but decided against that.

Rumbols 10-11-2011 08:48 AM

Yes, I did. I added a fabric with some red in it.

MTS 10-11-2011 08:50 AM

Dash of color. Actually, dashes of color.

It's up on my design wall now, and it's my go to baby quilt pattern. ;-) I've made over a dozen.

It's easy because I always have enough of the fabrics needed in my stash and can just whip it up.

Just need to find the time. Hopefully, I'll be done with it this week.

But that's not to say there aren't some incredibly striking B&W (only) quilts out there.

Mad Mimm 10-11-2011 08:51 AM

Nope not yet. Too much of a color-addict to stick to just B&W though one of these days, I want to try it as a challenge for myself.

katier825 10-11-2011 08:57 AM

Yes, still working on a B&W with Turquoise. I've also got planned a couple with a mixture of bright colors along with the B&W.

butterflies5518 10-11-2011 09:02 AM

One b/w with blues (skateboarding/music)and the other b/w/red prints. Would like to NOT do one for awhile, too much working with black for me.

Mariposa 10-11-2011 09:03 AM

Am working on one, using brights as accents. :)

Dagny 10-11-2011 09:10 AM

I've done both, and liked the results both ways. Black, white, gray also makes a nice quilt.

Late last year, we had a Black-White-Bright block swap here. If you search for and look at the thread for that, you'll find pictures of many of the blocks.

lynnegreen 10-11-2011 09:11 AM

I just pieced a 1600 quilt in black/white/ivory and added about a dozen 2.5X2.5 squares randomly from a fabric that with a white background with some primary color leaves and birds. I am a color nut and this was a departure for me and I just love the way it came out. That little touch of red, yellow, green here and there makes this simple quilt so much more dynamic.

Yes, my music quilt started out as all black and white and then I realized it needed a pop of color --- I gave the recipient the choice of red or pink. She chose pink.

I've done one, no splash of colorand am in a boomerang swap using black and white (on mine, everyone uses what they like) again no splash of color :) Third time will be the charm and I'll probably use something, just don't know what yet :)

Black and white just finished the top

WOW! That is gorgeous!

dmyers 10-11-2011 09:29 AM

Yes I love adding a splash of color to B&W, it can be any color and it looks great. My favorite combo is B&W with green or yellow. But then hot pink, red or turquoise looks great too!

Yes, see photo. Presently I've been working on another black and white log cabin quilt with red centers - sorry no photos of that one yet.

Black and white and red Bodacious pattern. Hard to do for me coz of the high contrast.

I'm busy collecting every small (1/2 yard) piece of black or white or black and white patterns for a big quilt for DS. He loves his black and white Ansel Adams pictures so don't want it to clash with them. No color except for 4 corners with the Yosemite Fire Falls he remembers us talking about often, when as a child we camped there often.
This will be a memory for me as well, and a tribute to his dad who loved the Valley so much we were married there in the Little Brown Church. Then we spent our honeymoon back packing in the high Sierras.

I've done two black and white quilts. One with red and one with lime green.

LeslieFrost 10-11-2011 12:17 PM

I love black and white! I usually put dashes of red in, but sometimes orange or lime green.

TerryQuilter 10-11-2011 12:31 PM

I made two B/W/R quilts, they turned out quite well. Hoping to do another one.

Same here.

CoyoteQuilts 10-11-2011 02:00 PM

Mine is only black and white.

itwrx4me 10-11-2011 03:30 PM

My first quilt was a black and white - no other color. And I love it!

Tweety2911 10-11-2011 03:48 PM

Yes added red on one and yellow on the other.

luckylindy333 10-11-2011 04:53 PM

DS wanted a black and white quilt with no flowers. I couldn't stand it so I added in some reds. This was about fifteen years ago. I think if I was doing it now, I would make it the way he asked...

Yes, my daughter-in-law requested it. But I bought too much fabric and ended up making two more with the left overs.

I have made a challenge quilt with black and white and a different color added in to twelve sampler blocks, while keeping the black and white fabrics the same throughout.

GingerK 10-11-2011 05:42 PM

I have a drawer full of black and white-just waiting for time to make a b&w log cabin (or maybe french braid--saw one of those at a show, with these huge brilliant hybiscus flowers and leaves appliqued on it)

Time....really neeeeed moooore tiiiime...

IrishNY 10-11-2011 05:52 PM

I did a B&W, but tossed in a little bit of color using jewel colors. Each block has one square that isn't black or white, and I used turquoise, raspberry, bright yellow and royal for the square. It spiced it up but still left an impression of black and white.

Like many others, I added red to mine. I made it for my BFF of 45 years (so far).

My son is a musician (on weekends), I made him a black and white several years ago. All the fabric was black and white musical notes, instruments, and sheet music. I used a 2" red inner border, a 4" black border and finished with the musical note binding. Turned out well and he's still happy with it.
