For myself, I have done the 'same type' of quilt again...especially once I've actually *learned* a few lessons making the first. It helps me cement the knowledge, and feel better about having a better result than the first mistake-laden one.

I have made 2 DWR quilts so far. Both for nephews... I want to practice so I get better. There is always so much to learn and try to do better. My hope is that by time my sons get married I will be able to make the quilts much better than what my nephews got ha ha

I don't usually make a quilt twice because there are so many quilts to make and so little time.

I have one exception though. My first patriotic quilt with four red stripes is hanging at the State Fair of Virginia right now with a first place ribbon on it... but I'm putting the final border quilting on my second one with six stripes. It's still not perfect, but I don't think I'll try it a third time! I really like the pattern that I designed though. I just wish it was easier to quilt.

I think that your design is great. If it doesn’t match your vision, it would be worth doing again.

You know what satisfies you, and if you need to repeat the pattern to improve your techniques , do it. But aren’t there similar patterns with the same techniques that you could make so that not only the colorwAy but also the design would be different?

Lovely! Since you named it Technical Difficulties and weren't happy with the outcome of your technique, perhaps practice the technique until you are satisfied with your results. You should know after that if you want to make another one.

And yes, I have done this myself. I almost always practice a new technique before making an entire quilt. This comes after many years of not doing that and wishing I had, usually after many hours of "reverse" sewing and swearing. :D

No, but have made several Blue Ridge Beautie, Split 9-Patches and String Quilts, all as Leader/Ender projects. I always have the pieces available near whatever machine I'm working on. When I have enough blocks I sew a top together.

If your 'mistake' looks this good, don't frustrate yourself. Go on to something different.
