wanted to make a quilt out of men's polo shirts or jeans? the really soft ones at least?
I work at a thrift store so get to feel so many different fabrics, and some of the nice men's jeans and polos are soooo soft. I just want to buy them and throw them in a quilt and not worry about stretching so I can curl up with it. Am I the only one who wants to do this?? |
If you use knit polo shirts, you will need to use an iron on stablizer. i would use the same instructions as for a T Shirt quilt.

I made one. Plain and simple squares. Just don't wash it in your home washing machine with the frayed edges. I blew up a brand new washer. Looked like a pair of jeans was stuck between the inner and outer drums with all those threads!!

Some knits are very stretchy. Some barely give.
I became very aware of that when I was making t-shirts for my kids of some non-stretchy knit. That's when I learned how to do plackets. (Still don't like to do them, though) |
I make jean quilts from old jeans a lot!

I use jeans and flannel shirts quite a bit, but never tried polo shirts, or knit.

Just wondering..if it would be a good idea to hand stitch an old net curtain, for instance, all over the front of it before washing? Think that would catch all the threads? |
as long as the materials can all be cared for together (washed/dried together) they can be used together-
there are quilts made with denims, corduroys, silks, wools...all kinds of fabrics- that are beautiful! if wanting to use stretchy knits you just need to use a stablizer to keep them from stretching out of shape- otherwise= you can use anything you want |
That's the way I feel about Minky. I just want to buy a whole bolt and pile it into a big nest on the floor and crawl in.

I have made several jean quilts.
