Several months ago I met Akrogirl on this board. We had several things in common and found that we both lived in AZ. We have met several times for lunch and are enjoying a new-found friendship thanks to the Board. Has anyone else met a Board member and developed a friendship?

craftybear 05-06-2011 06:08 PM

I have met nice people too...one lives where I do in Kewaunee WI but will be getting together with her now that she is back from Florida for the summer. Also, met a couple ladies on here in Green Bay WI and joined them for sewing when I was off on compensation. This is so nice to have and meet people. I also have many that I email back and forth. It is so nice.......

QuiltE 05-06-2011 06:23 PM

Yes, I recently met two IRL when they were in my area at a LQS. I couldn't go with them as I had to attend a 60th birthday party. It was so kind of them to be my escape plan!! *giggles*

I've met several virtually and am enjoying their company in cyberspace. A few of them are close enough to me geographically that I anticipate some GTGs, FARTs and dear knows what!! :)

(you know who you are ladies ... though I won't mention names!!! .... you can though, if you wish!)

cjomomma 05-06-2011 06:25 PM

I have met 2, dkabasketlady and Izaquilter. I love both of them and they are such a joy to hang out with. I have lost track of how many I have spoken to on the phone. Each time I talk to someone new it is as if we have known each other all our lives.

Abby'smom 05-06-2011 06:43 PM

yes, my quilting buddy Rose_P lives just a few miles from me -- we email most days and exchange ideas and pictures -- we get together when we can -- it's wonderful to have a friend with which to share quilting

Magdalena 05-06-2011 07:01 PM

I have made a wonderful, fantastic, sweet and loving friend through this board -- just haven't been able to meet her yet! I plan on doing just that this summer when I make my trip South to visit family!!! I can hardly wait!!!!!!!!     Her name is Mary (aka Skydiver70), and I am so very thankful that the Lord has put her in my life! ;)

Marlys 05-06-2011 08:01 PM

I met several when I was on my trip to PA, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, WI & S. Dakota last fall. Over Thanksgiving I met 3 in Idaho. I had a blast with everyone I met and am looking forward to seeing many of them again this fall!!!

sew cornie 05-06-2011 09:06 PM

Many of us in NW Oregon/SW Washington have been getting together about every other month or so. We typically meet at someone's house where we visit, have show-and-tell, and enjoy great snacks. We've been doing this for nearly 1 1/2 years. It's always open to any Board members who can come, newbie or veteran, and we post upcoming gatherings on the "Offline" section of the Board.

Seven of us went on a beach retreat last fall and 16 of us are going on another one in just a few weeks. I've met at least 20 Board members through our open house get-togethers and at the upcoming beach retreat, there will be several I'll be meeting for the first time. It's so much fun!

C.Cal Quilt Girl 05-06-2011 10:51 PM

Yep... Had a Nice Meet and Greet, then went over to a Local Show, a Fun Experience. Funny part was 2 knew each other and didn't realize it.

jitkaau 05-07-2011 03:19 AM

I live a little far away for meeting up. However, have had many positive encounters with fellow members since joining. When like minded people have a common interest it is also heart warming to find that they have generous spirits as well. I especially appreciate how welcoming and helpful the members are toward the novices who pose questions and ask for help. It has been my experience to encounter the exactly opposite response and I'm pleased it doesn't prevail here. Well done to the organisers to keep this equilibrium.

ywoodruff5 05-07-2011 03:34 AM

I have met Mary, a wonderful woman who lives in my area, and we have had lunch, shopped, done a craft fair together and bonded! Just want to add that I also met several Pogo friends in different states - including my husband!

mjsylvstr 05-07-2011 03:47 AM

I am back in Louisiana, I was in Hertford N.C. for about a month and met Katmom while doing the wash. We had such a good time talking my DH had to do the wash.

tupoms 05-07-2011 04:05 AM

I met Bebe in April at a LQS and she invited me to join the local Quilt Guild. Then in conversation we both discovered we use quiltingboard. Small world, huh?

Yes, JDeery and I have become good friends. We went to a local quilt show together last Saturday. We live about an hour apart and plan to have more get-togethers in the future. She is anxiously awaiting the return of my new long arm so we can have a play date at my house. There are a couple that we e-mail occasionally but have not met, as they are in other states.

gunny148 05-07-2011 04:18 AM

How do you match up with someone in your area?

sewmom 05-07-2011 05:01 AM

Yes I have met several last year at a Michigan get together and met a new friend through this board that lives near me. We've gotten together lots of times and have some mutual friends, including my cousin! Small world.

Annaquilts 05-07-2011 05:01 AM

Not yet in person but I would sure be open to it. I have made friends in the online realm. There was a fun meeting from people up in the Orange county area and I might have gone, eventhough it is a little far from me, but it was the same day my DS got married. I tend to have a busy schedule due to my family.

For me, it was just luck...noticing the home state in the avatar box. But maybe you could start a thread looking for people in your area who would like to meet.

shamrock 05-07-2011 05:27 AM

Well, I will recognize DeeBooper now when she gets here. thanks to her avatar. Red-warrior I knew, but didn't know she was on this board. abbyjanke I met when planning this gathering, having coffee with her Monday. Met deplaylady in a quilt shop, will see her again soon.

Yes I have met Gramma and seen her great work. I have also found two others living close but I cannot seem to get the timing right to meet person to person. Great and helpful people on here and I feel like I know them.

LAB55 05-07-2011 05:37 AM

Planing on a meet some time this summer with Plain Jane,
so far we have emailed and on the board. We are both busy at this time.
I don't travel to very large cities, because I don't handle a lot of heavy traffic well any more.
I have meet many here and we email back & forth.
Any one in far Western Maryland area, can send a PM & chat for a bit ! :-D

grannyp70 05-07-2011 05:50 AM

YES I have met several board members and all of them are very special to me, and we talk on the phone and by emails. Some that live close enough get together once in a while for lunch. Most live some distance away so we don't get to see each other much but do talk often. It always a pleasure to meet new friends, in my opion you can never have to many friends. I am hoping to meet more in the future. Hope everyone here has a wonderful weekend.

MamaBear61 05-07-2011 05:56 AM

I have met several new friends. Sewgull and I bumped into each other in a quilt shop in South Carolina while I was there on vacation in February. QuiltE and I have discovered that we several things in common, not just quilting and we have discussed going on a FART (lol). There are many members that I have enjoyed sharing ideas and information with.

mpeters1200 05-07-2011 06:02 AM

I knew Boston1954, suziesew, and helen marvel in person before I joined the board as we quilted together when I lived down south. Those girls are talented!

I met MissEllie here and I'm so grateful. We've gone to lunch a couple times and have had a great time getting to know eachother.

There were a couple others I was able to meet, but haven't seen them in a long time.

happymrs 05-07-2011 06:15 AM

I have met one, so far, from this board! Turns out we live just across the river from each other here, & we are within a few months of being the same age even! We have just met once in person, so far, as life keeps getting in the way. Met at the bakery/coffeehouse, down the hill here, & brought some quilty stuff for show & tell, & that was fun! Looking forward to our next meetup, when life quits getting in the way, lol! We do email other too, & keep in touch that way, which is nice too!
