Thanks! This could also come in handy with other threads. Some do seem to like to wrap around the spool holder. Very clever - will definitely give this a try!

Tootsie, yes the "thread" does go through the clip right from the spool whether it is above or below it. I've not notices any increased drag, maybe because I took the felt pad off. It has stopped the thread forming loops from the spool that would wrap around the part of the peg under the spool disk. Hope this helps!
