Our local newspaper sells end rolls for $5. it is more paper than you will ever use. We have packed 2 households for moving with it and still have 1/2 left. Check out your newspaper's office.

I've heard of people doing this with freezer paper but not regular paper - how do you keep your fabric from shifting about while you are working on your block? Do you glue stick the fabric to the paper or something? I absolutely love paper piecing and would love to know your method if you don't sharing :)

It fed through the printer just fine and is working great for the Mariner's Star I am piecing. I am guessing you could probably trim as many as 20 sheets at a time. Harriet Hargraves says she uses her rotary cutter all the time to prep her blocks and it doesn't dull the blade. So 60 sheets for a dollar seems cheap enough. I still have to see how it tears off.

Correction: Carol Doak not Harriet Hargraves made the statement about using her rotary cutter to cut the paper. I've been reading up on machine quilting and paper piecing so have to many names jumbled up in my brain. I finished the block, "Tim's Compass Block" found here on the QB, and tore the paper off. It came off very well.

You are exactly right - a little dab from a glue stick in piece #1. I tried the freezer paper method, but didn't like it because I couldn't see the fold line easily. I've also tried a basting stitch, but the glue stick is simpler and faster.

Yes, I also use a glue stick on the first piece when paper piecing. The newsprint tears off just great! I used the scribble pads until someone on the board mentioned the reams of newsprint paper. That is when I bought it, so nice not to have to cut the scribble pad paper before running it through the printer.

" I also remember going to the shop with him while he was setting type and playing with the lead bars.." (damaquilts)

We bought an old print shop here in Oregon years ago that still had the typesetting machine, letters and lead pigs that were melted down!

I have gotten the rolls from the local paper who finally started charging minimal. Any suggestions as to what to do with that heavy core afterwards - - -
