I like the idea of one row of cowboys. That's a great quilt. I wish I could see it in person to see all the details.

it looks fine but if it bothers you I"d cut it down to one row of them around but then maybe add another fabric border. maybe a solid.

That is so pretty. Great quilt.

If you end up taking it apart, I would also change the way the borders are meeting at the corners. It seems you added the small sashing to the border and then sewed them on as one piece, running the sashing up the sides to the top and bottom. I would have preferred the sashing be added separately and not divide the border, also would run the border so they were all sitting on the fence going around the quilt, not sliced so that there are lots and lots of rows of cowboys sitting on lots of fences if that makes sense. Beautiful quilt, wonderful squares, lot of love in there!

I think your instinct is correct that the border is too wide. I think a 3-4" inner border of a solid color (maybe the gold of the sashing) and then the single row cowboys would be better. I'd also run the border the long way on all sides of the quilt, provided you have enough fabric. Very interesting to have all those traditional blocks done in a Western motif. What a labor of love. It must be for someone special.

It's not the wide border it's the color of the border. The color just doesn't pull everything together for me. The quilt will make any cowboy happy!

This is my personal opinion.......that border is way too busy for that quilt. With all that's going on there you need a place for the eyes to relax a bit and keep everything rounded up! Maybe two solid colors, closest to,center dark and narrow, like the matting of a picture, then a wider lighter shade for finish and bind in that same color....keep,all that activity in the body of the quilt. Use the " cowboys" for something else........

Your quilt is beautiful, and I think I would put a less busy border on it to keep it from becoming too busy. I couldn't find a place for my eyes to rest or to draw them in a specific direction. I love all things western and cowboy and you sure nailed it right on the head

That would be my response also. It is beautiful and great piecing. Re-post once you have it the way you like it.

I didn't find the double row of border particularly distracting, but it did seem like the extra long rows at the ends/sides (4 or 5 cowboys long) was a bit much.

If as suggested you do the narrow solid border with the single row of cowboys outside all around, I think you will be happier with it.

Very interesting quilt!
