Help with borders
1 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased a kit for a turkey twister. I decided I wanted to do different borders then what the kit had. Now I'm not sure I made the right choice in changing the borders. I sewed the inner border I chose on and the two side outer borders on and I think the outer border may be too busy so I stopped sewing. Can you please give me your advice?

I love it! Great choice of fabric. I also really like the pattern. I haven't seen that one before.
Wonderful job! |
I love that outside fabric, but I think you are right. It overpowers the turkey, which is a cute piece on it's own.
Cute pattern I agree it does over power the turkey.
Any suggestions on which color borders I should use? I bought the kit and then realized I didn't want mine to look like everyone else's. I know I should've thought of that before I bought the kit. I'm sure I'll use the border fabric the kit had on another project.

I like the fabric but also like darker outer boarders. I would suggest a simple print or tone on tone darker brown, just like a picture frame.
I haven't seen this pattern but it is really cute. |
soooo cute! i think the outer border is fine... the green border stops the center pattern... and the leaves are not so large to draw attention from the turkey

AWWWWWW COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL I myself would put that border all the way around, I think it makes the turkey pop.............. love it.
If it was me I would leave that border fabric. Your turkey is made with tone on tone fabric and has a plain smaller green border between it and the floral fabric. The floral picks up each colour in the turkey and compliments it.
Very cute. Well done. |
I'd leave it too. It's a happy turkey with a happy frame. Maybe he managed to escape the hunters and is living in the fall foliage.
It looks great! I think you chose well.

I think it looks great. Great job.

I think it looks great, keep on going.
Thanks for the input everyone.
I would leave it on and put a darker binding on it. Not a problem. I likeit.
How about that maroon fabric? Or a packed fall leaves on black ?
For a one day celebration, I really like it!
It looks great! If you think the leaves are too busy, try a border that doesn't have as much going on, perhaps a darker one.
I love the border fabric you have! I think it will be great, especially if you bind with a darker color (or maybe the green of the inner border). You could also cut the border down in size slightly - maybe an inch all the way around? - which would lessen its effect.
I think it is lovely, and very cute. Alison |
I like the leaf border. It really pulls it all together.
Too cute! Do you have enough leaf fabric to do the top and bottom, and then bind it with your green? I personally think that would 'quiet it down' and still get to use the leaf fabric - which is perfect in color, theme, and scale.
Show us your finished project :-) |
I just love this border. Perfect choice.
Love the border, it is perfect with the turkey!!!

The outer border matches the colors in the turkey just fine. Add top and bottom and leave it be.
I like the borders! They look great on the quilt. Nice job!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the outter border!! It adds something else to it.I don't think it's overpowering at all!
I think the border looks great, with all the solid fabrics the quilt did need some color (print fabric).
I agree; pick a darker border.
me? I like the bold border... the green inner border defines the turkey... do what pleases your eye!!! (Contrary to popular opinion, the Quilt Police are only imaginary lol)
When I first looked at the quilt, I didn't even notice it was a turkey. My eyes were drawn to the border. IMO I would use a darker border, like the maroon you have in the turkey or make the border you have now smaller. It's such a cute quilt, never saw that pattern before. But to me, the border draws your eyes to it right away.
I like it and think after you put the top and bottom borders on, it will be fine.
Darker outside...something close to the reddish color that's in the quilt.
I think your quilt looks great. The green frames it nicely and the leaves are not over powering. Quilt it, bind it and enjoy it.
Perhaps it is just the power of suggestion, but all I can look at is the border. Your turkey is wonderful and deserves to be the center of attention. Personally I would use a rust or brown outer border - on all four sides. But as others have said, it is your piece and you need to make it something you will be happy with.
Love the pattern, and I think the border is perfect for the colors you have in the piece.
This is such a fun quilt! love it!
I would use a darker color for the outer border. The yellow pulls the eye away from the center. JMHO.
