No, storm at sea isn't made of 2 alternating blocks - it's got one main block and then 2 sashing blocks. But the effect is pretty similar.

Easy way to find the values of your fabrics...take a pic of all of them together, load it to your computer, and in the viewing software, adjust the colors to black and white. Some that you think are dark value end up not being so.

Why don't you simply PM the maker and ask her what patterns she used? That's a whole lot easier than asking opinions from everyone else, isn't it?

The black/white pattern is a Kaleidoscope. I found it in a book called The Big Book of Scrap Quilts. I got the templates at Joann's. You really don't need the book, just the templates.
