So I got this fabric to incorporate into a Christmas gift quilt for DH, who loves pigs. I was going make this "Rectangles Behind Bars" quilt http://www.judysisneros.com/FloraFauna.htm with the pig fabric for the focus fabric, but after I bought all my fabric I realized that the focus fabric is supposed to be a large scale print. I really like this quilt design, and I've been trying to think of a way to incorporate the pig fabric into the design. I was thinking of making it into a square (or almost square) quilt with just one "focus fabric" strip. I could either just put a strip of the pig fabric instead of the "behind bars" area if that makes sense...but then it wouldn't look very quilt-y. Or I could make that section into a square and do a frame around 4 snowflake blocks with the pig fabric for the centers.

Or I could scrap this design entirely and do something else, maybe with four patch blocks.... Please help me figure out how to make my pig-themed quilt!

What about a One Block Wonder??

I have no idea but I had to answer. The image developed slowly and I was not expecting pigs!!

I am sure anything you come up with will be amazing!

Good luck,

Maria

Sure, nothing says Christmas like angelic piggies. Love those porkers.

What about using a square of the pig fabric as a focus fabric and making a log cabin alternate block. You could call it "On the farm"

Or maybe I could do something like this http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltbl...07_lotto_4.htm ?

Do you mean something like this Mock Log Cabin Block http://quilting.about.com/od/blockof...k_logcabin.htm but with the pig fabric instead of a four patch in the center?

It's for a Christmas present, not supposed to be particularly Christmas-y...

I was kidding about the pigs being "christmasy." I think it's a really cute idea.

The pattern you showed is an option and it would work if the 4-patch included some pigs. But that is not what I was thinking.

I imagine a regular or a wonky log cabin block made in the rusty, red, brown tones that are in the pig fabric. THen, I would cut a square of pig fabric, the same size as the log cabin and alternate one pig- one log cabin. In those colors, the log cabin could be a log barn - hence my original title.

Another idea: Have you seen some of the quilts done with Olivia (the pig) fabric? You may decide to use one of those patterns and feature your parade of pigs in place of Olivia.

I second that. It's definitely what I would do.

I would probably do something simple like a hole in the barn door block with a piggy face as the center square. :0D

I searched for pig quilts last night. I'm interested in piggy fabrics and designs for a someday pig theme. Hope to see project pix from you.

If you did a One Block Wonder, wouldn't you lose the pigs? The pigs are so cute, and especially since your husband likes pigs, why would you want them to lose their pigginess?
