I would first find out what their likes are and go from there. Also depends on when they're getting married.

I once made a large hand appliqued wall hanging and put their name and date of their wedding. I think it turned out to be about 24 x 36". They loved it. I really wish I would have remembered to take a photo of it, but I forgot. Oh well.

The block that I used was from a book, "The Country Lily Quilt" by Benner & Pellman.

Although hand appliqueing it took a long time, it didn't take as long as making a big quilt for them and it was received with just as much excitement. Even machine applique would be just as nice with their names and date of their wedding made into a pillow would be really a sweet gift.

Instead of a wedding guest book, I made our wedding couple a guest signature quilt, just making a quilt square in white
for the wedding guests to sign and allowing enough space for a comment, adding a nine patch or four patch square in their colors would work as well. Here is a pic of the one we gave them, and they were delighted Apologies the pic is so blurry!

Just made a lap/wallhanging/table topper quilt for a wedding--choose a very modern pattern from Modern Minimal book that used improv piecing in the middle and "open" space on both sides--the colors in middle I used the colors of her Fiestaware--all solids. Very easy to put together and modern quilting uses lots of straight lines, etc. I would do this one again for a wedding quilt.

How about some pot holders, microwave bowls and towels for the kitchen.

I am making the Lover's Knot by Elinore Burns. It is an easy quilt. The book which is the pattern is available under the used book section on Amazon. It looks more complicated when done than it is. It uses strips and setting triangles. best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

I would make a seasonal table runner, quicker, cheaper and if their color scheme changes in the bedroom your expensive quilt won't be sent to a charity!

That is so true. I gave away or tossed most of the things that had the date or our wedding or our names on them when I was divorced.

I am thinking of making my niece a stain glass quilt for her wedding next year. I found a stain glass pattern for glass that I think I may try and do in batiks.
