Help I need suggestions

I want to make a Flying Geese Rainbow quilt, but don't know which material to use for the sky. Would you use 1, 2, or 3 ???

i like #2....can't wait to see it done

Elise1 06-14-2013 04:37 PM

I vote for #3. I like your rainbow fabrics.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 06-14-2013 05:00 PM

Well, I'm no help. I'd pick #1. Maybe #2. Not #3. Isn't that funny? 3 votes and they are all for different fabrics!

I love your rainbows and think this quilt could be awesome. Not that you want to bring another color to the suggestion box, but I think if it were mine I'd look for something in mottled grey.

Latrinka 06-14-2013 05:04 PM

At first look, I said #3, but then looked again, and I like #1 best! I'm not gonna look again! LOL!

hopetoquilt 06-14-2013 05:08 PM

Prefer the contrast with #3.

Do you mean to use a mottled gray for the "sky" or add it for the "Geese"? Now you have me thinking in a whole new direction. LOL

laurafet 06-14-2013 05:37 PM

I like #3.

coachmatthewsvhs 06-14-2013 05:58 PM

I like #1 the best

alikat110 06-14-2013 06:38 PM

I like the idea of molted grey. Otherwise, #3.

I was thinking a mottled grey for the sky also, like it had just got done raining and the rainbow pops out with a little sun
I vote for #1 at first I liked #2 but I think 1 is the med of the three and would make a good choice.

Lilrain 06-14-2013 10:11 PM

I like 2. But you go with what your heart and eyes lead you too, as they all would work

DOTTYMO 06-14-2013 11:19 PM

Mottled grey

DebraK 06-15-2013 04:15 AM

mottled grey or number 3 for me too.

Evelynquilts 06-15-2013 04:20 AM

I like 2...

dlong 06-15-2013 04:28 AM

Though they are all lovely fabrics, I think they compete with the rainbow colors and will dominate the quilt. My vote would be for the mottled grey or another more subtle color for the sky.

QUILTNMO 06-15-2013 04:34 AM

i like 3!!!

breannabelle 06-15-2013 04:41 AM

I like the idea of gray, black, or white. If not, then #3 - The #1 and #2 are too blendy with the red.

leatheflea 06-15-2013 05:33 AM

I vote for 3, 1 and 2 are too close to one of the colors in the geese. Gray or black would be nice also!

omacookie 06-15-2013 05:41 AM

I like #3 but would rather a mottled light grey....That's the way I see rainbeaux here in S. La. Hugs

mighty 06-15-2013 06:48 AM

I vote for 3.

thyme2quilt 06-15-2013 07:11 AM

#3 makes your colors pop

dunster 06-15-2013 07:20 AM

What is a Flying Geese Rainbow quilt?

cowgirlquilter 06-15-2013 07:29 AM

I would vote for number three.

QuiltnNan 06-15-2013 07:59 AM

i vote for #2

ailene 06-15-2013 07:59 AM

Number two is lighter. I think the other colors would pop better with that one.

Just Jan 06-15-2013 08:27 AM

I definitely vote for something neutral for the sky. If not mottled gray, then black, white or almond. The brightly colored geese will pop with a high contrast sky/background. Think of it this way, a brightly colored rainbow shows up against a mostly neutral blue sky, after the rain. Thats how the pretty geese will stand out on your quilt if you choose a neutral background.

mom-6 06-15-2013 08:58 AM

I also vote for a more "sky" color to show off your lovely rainbow colors.

However I can also see if you are trying for it to be a rainbow against a sunrise or sunset sky then your reds make sense.

Of course it's your quilt and your vision of what you are trying to create! So you know best on that.

Monika 06-15-2013 09:12 AM

I would also go for more of a neutral so the geese pop more. But if you like the red, I would go with #3 as it has the most contrast with your red geese. Your three reds contrast nicely with all the other geese, so I would make the decision on which looks best with the red geese. Of course you have the best view for that.
Just my thoughts. I am sure it will be beautiful. Geese are one of my faves.....would love to see this completed!

ube quilting 06-15-2013 09:18 AM

IMHO, I am not keen on any of them. Do you have a dark forest green or dark maroon or black? Just try some more colors, even a midnight blue would be nice w/ the rainbow geese. The brown tones seem to over power the other colors in my old eyes:D.

If I had to choose one of these it would be the third one, it allows the geese to fly!
peace

EDIT: I also like the idea of a grey sky, but a dark one!

GailG 06-15-2013 10:08 AM

IMHO, since the colors are so brilliant, a brilliant sky would be awesome. So I vote for the brightest which is #2.

Janet Kelly Crafts 06-15-2013 10:13 AM

I like number 3. Lovely fabrics.

Halo 06-15-2013 10:29 AM

I, too, would go for a molted grey. Are you going to use Ricky Tims method for your flying geese? It will be a stunning quilt.

That's where the idea came from. I don't think I will use his method because I don't want the Geese to be like pockets.

DebraK 06-15-2013 06:04 PM

they don't have to be pockets. just fold back the edge and sew the lip down. quite attractive.

twinkie 06-16-2013 02:53 AM

I agree with alikat110. I think the others are too much in contrast with the row of colors. IMHO

tealfalcon 06-16-2013 03:09 AM

I think a dark gray or black. ...but of the ones you have I would say 3

ladysuds 06-16-2013 03:24 AM

I like #3 more contrast ...that is what we say at sit and sew..you have 20 gals and at least 20 different ways to do things..love it

Whitney60 06-16-2013 03:31 AM

Since 1 and 2 are the favorites.. can you blend in 1 and 2...Start 1 on the bottom of the quilt and fade into 2? Lots of help ha??? Have fun with it..

ljwinemiller 06-16-2013 03:31 AM

I like two cause it's the brightest and matches the brightness of the rainbow.
