Help with identifying a pattern, please?

I saw this beautiful quilt and would love to know what the pattern is. I know that it's probably simple to re-create without a pattern but my brain just doesn't work that way. Can anybody identify this pattern for me? I would love to make it for my bed. A first...as my quilts all tend to be for someone else :) Thank you so much for any help!

where did you find the picture... if on google images or pinterest, there should be a link to the maker's site

thimblebug6000 05-29-2013 06:27 AM

http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t221182.html This was a posting about that quilt.

Maybe Ozarkgal would know the pattern name as they quilted it? Or perhaps they would ask the quilt maker the name for you?

nativetexan 05-29-2013 06:34 AM

it looks to be done tube style. strips sewn together and laid on top of each other and cut. quiltville.com has some and lots of tutorials out there in internet land too on these.

terra32903 05-29-2013 06:50 AM

I already asked the quilter. I now know the quilting pattern name :-) Now just to know the actual quilt pattern.

You sew five 2.5 strips together, then cut them into 10.5" squares. Put one square on top of the other, with the stripes going opposite ways (top square stripes go vertical, bottom square stripes go horizontal) and sew a quarter inch seam all around the perimeter. Then you cut the square in quarters diagonally, like a big X. This will give you 4 blocks, which you then play with on your design wall.

Super easy and fun. I'm making one right now where I alternated light and dark fabrics.

It is a beautiful pattern. Thanks Peggi for breaking it down.

PaperPrincess 05-29-2013 07:19 AM

I agree with Peckish on the general concept, but I think this is the 4 strip version, not the 5

Here's the video:

Peckish 05-29-2013 07:28 AM

Oooh, I think you're right, PaperPrincess - it Does use 4 strips and not 5. My mistake!

yngldy 05-29-2013 08:12 AM

I like your 5 strip quilt, Peckish! Quite a different pattern when just one more strip is added.

erstan947 05-29-2013 08:48 AM

I used 5 strips and it works great:)

Woman 05-29-2013 09:09 AM

Did you use 2 prints and 2 whites. I so want to make this top.

If you're talking to me... I used 3 prints and 2 whites. Jelly rolls, actually.

AlienQuilter 05-29-2013 09:29 AM

I thought it looked like a 3 Dudes pattern!

benndm 05-29-2013 10:07 AM

I love the scrappy colorful look. This will be another pattern to add to my bucket list.

quiltqueen61 05-29-2013 10:13 AM

I think this pattern was posted on here by Missouri Star Quilt Co. Jelly Roll tutorial...I have made 3 so far...super fun...

That's what it is!!! Peckish described it as shown on a Missouri Star youtube.

PlanoDebbie 05-29-2013 07:35 PM

It is the same concept as the 3 Dudes quilt done on the Missouri Star Quilt Company, but definitely made with only 4 strips of fabric. I've made the 3 Dudes quilt and it turned out pretty good. Just remember that if you only use 4 fabrics, cut your segments into 8.5" blocks instead of 10.5". It will take more blocks, but I like the look of the 4 strips a little bit better. This pattern looks like you spent a lot of time cutting the pieces and really goes together quickly.

JustAbitCrazy 05-29-2013 11:09 PM

Wow! Love it! TY for posting this.

I don't see any mistake – yours looks great, and what a great idea to add the white strips!

btmline 05-30-2013 06:12 AM

check out Missouri Star Quilt Co. on you tube the is a tutorial on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5Ixvjje310
If the link doesn't work it is called amazing jelly roll quilts from the 3 dudes.

It looks really cool with the batiks.

Passionate Quilter 05-30-2013 08:47 AM

I think this pattern is from the book "Jelly Roll Quilts" by Pam & Nicky Lintott, it is called "Garden Trellis" and is on Page 24. I just bought the book yesterday and that pattern was the reason I bought it.

maryellen2u 05-31-2013 02:44 AM

You girls are so smart AND talented! I love both quilts and really love the easy straightforward directions! Thank you so much, once again!

twinkie 05-31-2013 02:51 AM

That makes a real nice scrappy. I love it.

klgls 05-31-2013 04:22 AM

Been wanting to do this one - in fact, just got in the mail yesterday a jelly roll. I really like both of them, so I will have to decide whether to use 4 or 5 strips. :)

Peggy, did your 5 strip take two jelly rolls and what is the final planned size?

quiltingnd 05-31-2013 05:09 AM

Isn't that this pattern? Video from MSQ.

If you look carefully the Garden Trellis is also a tube quilt, but the strips all go in one direction in each final block. In the 3 Dudes pattern, because you rotate the original strip sets, one horizontally and one vertically, each final block has strips going diametrically opposed to one another.

Here is my Garden Trellis and you can see the difference.
Both are unique.

crafty pat 05-31-2013 07:20 AM

My McCall's magazine just came and one that looks just like it is on page 56 called tickled pink.

azsupergram 05-31-2013 07:23 AM

The Missouri Star Tutorial makes this super easy to follow. Thanks for the reminder - I have to make some quick baby quilts and I know this will fit the bill for me too.

Wow, sounds so simple, but looks so difficult.

WisWis 05-31-2013 08:24 AM

Lovely bright quilt.

AlaskaAlice 05-31-2013 10:14 AM

That pattern is Hidden wells, I believe it is called.I am making a large quilt for my GD with it. You sew strips together measure width and cut a square that size then cut four of them diagonal X and label A, B, C, D. Then sew triangle A to B. C to D. It makes a wonder easy block. Google Hidden well quilt blocks and I think you will find lots of examples. Love those bright beautiful colors!!

I started with 3 jelly rolls; 2 colored and 1 neutral. I want it to be king sized, it will end up about 95 x 108. Blocks are 13" finished. I did end up supplementing the jelly rolls by buying about 4 different neutral skinny quarters, and I pulled some colored batiks from my stash and added those also. But that's the great thing about scrappy quilts - you can add different fabrics and no one will be able to tell.

sahm4605 05-31-2013 11:40 AM

I have made many quilts that use a similar pattern to that. it is called hidden wells and the msq has a tute on one similar that was done by the guys quilt shop guys. it was a fun and easy thing to do I plan on making one like the one peckish is making.

jmoore 06-02-2013 02:11 AM

Peggy, we will be anxious to see your king size when it is finished... I bet it will be beautiful.

Cyn 06-07-2013 09:45 AM

I love these ideas and quilts! Thank you for posting!
