Any one else have this affliction? Just finished some mug rugs for swap and noticed all the pockets are on the right side of the rug. Dang, I hate it when that happens,I'm starting over, too much trouble to take em off and the Elvis one has a design problem................Dang.

frauhahn 04-02-2011 08:19 AM

Ah, the world just doesn't realize how handicapped we lefties are!!! But always remember- we are the only ones in our right minds!

Why do you feel you need to do it over again. So what if the pockets are on the right side.

There are MANY quilters who are left handed and some of us are ambidextrous (able to use left and right hand).

I personally don't feel we have to accomodate another group over what we are especially this.

With that being said than what does that make an ambidextrous person?

YukonViv 04-02-2011 08:38 AM

I've made several mug rugs for swaps and haven't done a pocket...is it for spoon?

I don't see how it matters which side the pocket is on, please don't do it over, it looks great! I love it.

BTW, I'm a lefty as well, I've been asked how it affects my knitting, cross stitching and quilting...I don't see how it has, it all looks the same in the end.

Janetlmt 04-02-2011 09:04 AM

I am a lefty...and love it. We are a breed of our own. We think differently, we create..our passions are heartfelt. It doesn't matter what side the pocket is on. The important thing is that you created it.

trif 04-02-2011 09:27 AM

Im a lefty quilter as well and seriously if you hadn't sad it was on the wrong side I never would have thought so. Who decided it has to be on the other side, it's a design choice. I often(ok, always) do things oppositIte of my fellow righty quilters, this is what makes us unique. Oh!, I absolutely love love love your mug rug, so you can always send it to me :) a fellow lefty who would appreciate the pocket where it is :)

lfw045 04-02-2011 09:37 AM

I would not change a thing! I'm a lefty too and I love it! Being a lefty is a blessing.....lol! We get to embrace being different!

sewsue 04-02-2011 09:44 AM

I am left handed too. Have a nick name "The Witch" I dont care what others think just as long as I enjoy the journey of all my stitching. I have had some laughs from my quilting group as they are not used to seeing me embroider or stitch with my left hand so the other day they were in awe while watching me. We all had a good laugh at " you look so uncomfortable". Must add that my colonial knots or french knots come out much nicer than the right handers. hehehehe

sewsue 04-02-2011 09:44 AM

Sorry double posted.

redturtle 04-02-2011 10:02 AM

well im a righty...grammas a lefty...she does her crafty stuff just fine

and as far as your mug rug...i like it...who says the spoons on the wrong side..i could use it like it is

sueisallaboutquilts 04-02-2011 10:08 AM

All the lefties in my family are extremely artistic! And I'm not one of them.
I don't see anything wrong with your Elvis Mug (rug lol)

I write lefty, but I think being 'ambi' makes me very lucky! When cutting fabric, I don't have to move the fabric or adjust the ruler, I just switch the rotary cutter between hands, when my right hand becomes crampy after a stint of hand stitching, I use my left, although it feels more natural using my right. I remember in elementary school the teacher would give me those left-handed scissors, and I could never understand why they wouldn't cut. I was using them in my right hand! The teacher probably thought I wasn't very bright! lol!

S D G 04-02-2011 10:56 AM

I am also a lefty, I don't see that it has caused me any more difficulty than any other person. Both of my parents and my brother are righties, both of my children are lefties. I wouldn't be me if I were anyother way.

BellaBoo 04-02-2011 11:00 AM

I'm right handed, the pockets would not be awkward for right handed people. I wouldn't change them.

Beachbaby12 04-02-2011 11:18 AM

I wouldn't change a thing - I agree with the other posts! It is a right-handed world and I am a lefty too! Right-handed people do not have a clue and take everything for granted. I recently bought a left-handed rotary cutter and love it.

mary j 04-02-2011 11:39 AM

I am right handed, but my Mom and sister are lefties. I often do thing backwards (like threading a needle). Because my Mom did. I wouldn't change the pockets, let the righties adjust.

Sassylass 04-02-2011 11:44 AM

I ,too am a lefty and there is nothing wrong with your mug rug..I think it is perfect!
sass

beckyw 04-02-2011 11:46 AM

I'm also left handed and I don't see a problem with the mug rug.

TonnieLoree 04-02-2011 11:50 AM

I am a lefty too! Mom taught me to cut with right handed scissors. To this day I can not use a pair of left handed ones. I do rotary cut with my left hand and any hand sewing is done that way as well. My babysitter taught me to crochet right handed. Wouldn't have a clue how to do it any other way. We're in with a good crowd. Leonardo DaVinci and Albert Einstein were both left handed. I can legabily write backwards if I have to. (But why?) At least in school I wasn't forced to write with the other hand.

pab58 04-02-2011 12:17 PM

Isn't there a saying that goes something like: If the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handed people are in their right mind!"

smagruder 04-03-2011 02:58 AM

Looks good to me!!!

justlooking 04-03-2011 03:07 AM

I won't change the pocket either. There is nothing wrong with it where it is. I'm right handed.

OmaForFour 04-03-2011 03:21 AM

So now that you have rug mugs for left handed people, make some for right handed people and label both as to what they are if you are giving or selling them.

Mary O 04-03-2011 03:22 AM

How can you put a mug on Elvis's face.NO NO!

SueSew 04-03-2011 03:28 AM

Oh yes. I finally found a quilt book which had some left-handed pictures and AT LAST - light dawned...I had been doing everything backwards except sew.
I still tend to get left, right in and out mixed up and have to redo it, but at least now I have mental images of how to lay out fabric and cut fabric without slicing self.
The only thing easy is changing the presser foot as the screw is on the LEFT!!! :)

Deborah12687 04-03-2011 03:37 AM

I am a left handed south paw and I write upside down. I had a teacher in school who demanded that I write with my right hand and she would tie my left arm to the back of my chair to force me to learn to be right handed. Well she tied it so tight and I had marks on my rist. She did it to 3 others who were left handed. The teacher ended up loosing her teaching job. I always called her old lady on a broom stick! I actually cut upside down with a scissors and find it natural and my cutting is strait.

Vat 04-03-2011 03:44 AM

I'm lefted handed and have NO problems with quilting. Don't understand your problem. With all the left handed tools that are out there now for lefties. Scissors, rotary cutters, etc., we are in better shape than ever before, like more than 45 years ago when I first started sewing.

christina d 04-03-2011 03:54 AM

Iam a lefty and when younger my lefty dad taught me how to knit but he neglected to tell my you keep the empty needle in your left had I used to knit it from one needle then knit back the other way it gave not until later did I learn this wasnt how it was supposed to be but the stitches looked good

christina d 04-03-2011 03:56 AM

I also like show people that I can write in the left handed way which is a mirror image to the right handed way we all write it is usually easy for lefthanded people

quilt3311 04-03-2011 04:01 AM

Hey leave it, what difference does it make which side the pocket is on. I can use both hands for most things, My Dad was like that too, he even changed hands often when eating, sometimes with the left, sometimes with the right. Does that mean I am in my "right" mind half the time? grin

With that being said than what does that make an ambidextrous person?

We use our whole Brain? I write right or left handed but it is easier to write backwards with my left or upside down. Being Ambidextrous we get the best of both sides of our brain. LOL

I am left handed, married left handed. I struggle sometimes. Most noticeably is when I hand quilt with the ladies at the church. I have trouble going in all directions. I love the mug rug and agree left handers are more creative! We may have just had more correction and criticism over the years, affecting our self esteem!

I'm Ambidextrous, in a world set up for the right handed I guess that makes me a misfit. Oh well I just get things done faster.

Linda1 04-03-2011 05:00 AM

Alex Anderson of Simply Quilts is left handed. I love to watch her. I am right handed. I have a DGS who is left handed. I am glad his teachers did not try to force him to use his right hand. He is a very smart young man. You mug rugs are fine. Don't change a thing.

Pattycakes 04-03-2011 05:01 AM

I feel the same as everyone else. The piece looks awesome and doesn't matter where the pocket is. When you choose a pattern to make you don't use the same material. You don't want your project to be like every one else's. Your project in it self is unique and that makes it special. If I were you I wouldn't change a thing. But if it really bothers you. Make another set and take two from each. That way you accomidate both left and right handed people.
But your projects is totally awesome!

Sorry about the duplication, Internet is lagging

equally out of both of my minds :-)
I was supposed to be a lefty- but was 'corrected' by having my left hand taped to the desk. Fixed that later by breaking my right hand in 5th grade and have been able to do most things left or right handed ever since. Apparently I iron backwards too (according to my MIL, anyway)

grandma anna 04-03-2011 07:16 AM

I am a lefty too thought I was the only one lol yes it is a right handed world.
