Hello!
Has anyone seen anything like this? I want to make a very good friend a lap quilt using the stack n whack kaleidoscope method and she breeds lurcher dogs. If anyone sees any around, please let me know. Ideally a medium print with a large repeat of the pattern. Thanks! K x |
I have never heard of Lurcher. Had to Google it.
Guess ya learn something new everyday, huh? But, I don't have any doggie fabric. :( |
Sorry - I wasn't scrounging! I want to buy it, I need 4 or 5 yards depending on the repeat. A lurcher is a cross between a greyhound or wolfhound and a collie. Here's a link http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images15...PhotoPenny.JPG
They differ quite a lot but my friend's look something like this. I know it's a long shot but I got a bee in my bonnet and thought one of you may have seen something on your travels! K x |
Thanks Loretta - I hadn't found that one, yes I've been a-googlin'! Had a look, some greyhounds but only b&w. I might have to go with a generic doggy fabric but I'm not ready to give up on lurchers just yet! Thanks again for your help!
K x PS I gave your love to England!!! |
Here's a website with alot of dog fabric:

K, just looked up what a lurcher is. I have never heard of them. What a neat looking dog, and from what I read, they are fun and loving.

HAD to check this thread because I had no idea what a "lurcher" was. Cute dog, love the fuzzy face.
|
Sorry - got no idea about fabric, but I love the name. Better than Grollie or Woollie.

I had never heard of a lurcher. Cute dog. Very unusual. Hope you can find some fabric.

After lots of googling, still no lurchers so think I'll have to go for general doggy fabric; what I need is something with a large pattern repeat - preferably about 24" which isn't easy to find, most are 8 - 12"; and a background with some movement rather than completely plain is good too. Don't ask for much, do I? :D Oh, and I'd prefer realistic dogs rather than cartoony ones! So if anyone comes across anything, I'd be eternally grateful for info!
Thanks all, K x |
K, I have to run to Ben Franklins tomorrow.
I'll take a check there and see what there is for dogs. Sometimes there are some cool prints. |
K, I tried snooping for some for you too:)Sorry, no luck. I was wondering if you thought of doing dog bone, paw prints, etc for dogs instead of the exact breed? There are many lines of doggie 'things' fabrics. Great colors too!:)Skeat

Here's a link to something with tigers
http://www.jandofabrics.com/Uploads/...28647_full.jpg It would be perfect if they were dogs - the repeat is quite wide and the images are larger than 3" which means when I cut the triangles to make my hexagons, I'll chop into the pictures, which is what you want! Also the backgound is busy and there are spaced out patches of different colours. The repeat seems to be about 12" if you count from the top of the rock on the lower right to the same rock at top middle. You need to cut 6 full repeats to get sets of six identical triangles which make up into hexagons, so for a 12" repeat, you would need at least 72" of fabric plus plenty of fudge allowance! For such a short repeat, you would make two stacks so a total of 144" ie 4 yards. The book says to get 4 1/2 yards. According to my instructions, the best is a 24" repeat but these are hard to come by! Maybe I can convince my friend to breed tigers instead of lurchers?! :D Sorry to be so picky but it won't work otherwise! Thanks everyone for looking! K x |
Wish I could help ya' K....I don't have any stores near me to look..but I am going to Wally world today..and they still have fabric. I'm betting though that they won't have any. I'll peek in that dept. to see though

Thanks Patti - I'm googlin away here til smokes comin out of the puter - here's a link to a supply list for a class which explains the process pretty well, in case anyone's interested http://www.pioneerquiltersguild.org/...k%20supply.pdf
The book she refers to is the one I have. K x |
k - are you sure this isn't a shaggy dog story?
|
Lurchers seem to be an obscure breed and I don't hold out any hope at all that you will find this fabric. I would consider a generic dog pattern instead. Perhaps you could do something personal about Lurchers on the back of the quilt where the signature would be. I haven't tried it myself, but photos printed on fabric seem to be common now- perhaps one of the owner's dog with a sentiment about the breed. I feel that would be very personal and unique.

Yes Cindy, I'm resigned to using a doggy fabric - nice idea about the back!
LOL BW!!! K x |
maybe the back could be faux (that's french for fake LOL) fur that sort of looks like lurcher-fur?

My guess is - serious about the faux fur and joking about the shaving? But, knowing you...who knows?!
K x |
LOL

I dont know why, lol, I am going to say this is most interesting, when i don't know what the heck you guys are talking about. lol.
Ok, you are going to do a quilt with kaleidoscopes/hexagons, and need a fabric with lurcher dogs. Never heard of those, but someone says a rare breed? And BW is telling you to shave WHOSE dog, lol? won't be a shaggy dog story then. You guys make me giggle, whether I get it all, or not...tee hee hee, snort, snort...heeheeheee  |
cover your mouth when you snort

K x PS C a recap - I have avery good friend in England and I want to make her a lap quilt. I've just got into Kaleidoscopes (see Maxine Rosenthal book, One Block Wonders) and thought if I could find a fabric with lurchers on that would be great as she breeds them. They're a cross between greyhound or wolf/deer hound and collie. There's link to a pic somewhere up above! Anyway I've given up on lurchers and am now looking for just dogs! Trouble is, it has to be a certain kind of fabric and most websites don't tell you the size of the pattern repeat for example! Here's where it's a real pain to shop online. still, I'll persevere! K xxx |

Now, I don't see why somebody doesn't have a lurcher on fabric, there's everything else out there, but problem is...even if someone did, it may be out of circulation now...since this is kaleidoscope, can't suggest, embroidery,...way too much work for that...I see your dilemma...sounds like you have been really grinding the old gears, to come up with a solution. Maybe one lurcher in middle of kaleidoscope, with other doggie stuff in the points or spokes of the wheel...you get that, right? By the way, BTW, a good old snort, just ain't the same, when muffled...try it...hubby will rush you to e.r.!   Don't make me pee myself, this early in the morning. oops, got to run, someone calling, right about now....hear it???? |
LOL C! If I stack n whack you, we'll get six of you, now wouldn't that be great?!
