The boarders go across top and bottom ... Elephants or polka dots ???
The ric rack ..... Light pink, dark pink or fat gray ?!?! The elephants hold balloons that will be light gray or yellow ............. !!!!!! Pattern is Mommy & Me from Annies attic ........ |
Very Beautiful....Elephants with dark pink ric rack.
I like the elephants with wide grey Rick rack
I like #3 - Polka dots with large dark gray ric-rac. It seems to brighten up the quilt and give focus. I would use the small elephant print as the backing if you have enough.
I agree with Barb. It is more pleasing to my eye. Polka Dot with fat gray or light or dark pink, but definitely the polka dot. That makes the appliques center stage. For me, even though there are a lots of colors, with the elephant border I had a hard time resting my eyes Whereas, with the polka dot, I could more easily see the elephant applique. And if enough of elephant print for the backing.
Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
I like the polka dot with light pink rickrack, but I think polka dots with any color rickrack works too.
Elephants with fat gray rickrack.
I like the polka dots too....and the gray rickrack looks good....
I like the first one...Polka dots, and the dark pink ric-rac. The Dark gray comes in a close second.

I like #1, polka dots with dark pink ric-rac.
I second Love2Quilt611's opinion - elephants with pink ric rac.
Vote for #1. I like how the grey picks up the colors you have used in the quilt. The same rationale for the pink rick-rack. But as always, it is your quilt, your way. Let it rest a few days and then take a look and see what just feels "right". Then go for it!
First of all Congrats on a cute quilt. I like #3. The polka dots and dark grey ric rack. The grey rick rack pulls out the ears of the elephants and small flecks of grey in the prints.
I can't help but it is lovely!
Hugs Caroline |
Number3 sets it off beautifully,

Love your Mommy & Me quilt. I’ve made two and can’t wait to make another...they are so much fun.
I like the grey polka dot border with the dark (black or gray) ric rac. Can’t wait to see what you decide. |
any polka dot combo

I like the polka dots with either of the pink accents. nce quilt!
What ever you decide will be too, too cute!
I think the 3rd picture is absolutely the best (polka dots with darker ric rac). This allows your eyes to settle on the center of the quilt. There is lots of pink in the center, so the darker ric rac frames that center nicely. The elephant border is too busy and my eyes were darting all over the place when attempting to focus on the center.
If this is to be a quilt that is used, I'd nix the idea of the rickrack. My experience is that it does not stay flat when laundered and takes away from a neat appearance. It doesn't wear well. If you like the look, consider piecing chevrons across the piece. (I like the polka dots.)
#3, love polka dots
I don't think you can go far wrong with any of your choices, to be honest, but I prefer the polka dots with either of the pink ric racs.
I am partial to the the first lay out. It has a nice and soft appeal.
I prefer the polka dot border too for the reasons mentioned and either color rick rack depending on your color choice. Very cute pattern and quilt!
I like the elephants with grey polka dots and dark pink ric-rac. Going to be an adorable quilt. Good luck on your decision and share with us which finish you end up doing
I vote for #3 as well.
Love #3 as it really shows off the elephants
Polka dots and dark grey ric-rac would be my choice!
#3. Polka Dots with dark rickrack.
I vote for the second picture from the left.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I like the last picture the best, that maybe partly because of the scale of the shot.
I used the jumbo rickrack on a quilt for my grandson. Not for when he's a baby, but when he's around 3 or so. There are different solutions, I stitched through both sides in mine. This picture is more about the stuffed applique, but you can see the rickrack. |
Thats awesome ! Thanks! I'm going to sew along each edge, with the curves .....
Polka dots with black ric rac.
I did not like the elelphant print for the borders because
it detracted from the appliqued elephants The colors were not quite "right" for what I could see of the other prints used the scale seemed "off" - too small But - this is my opinion - If using rick-rack - shrink it before sewing it to the item. It will add texture - is that a plus or minus? The elephant print would be okay to use for the backing, |
