Ok so i am making a quilt for my son's GF. I let her sit in front of my quilting book case to chose a pattern so she did, then i took her to Joan's to pick her fabric (not like i have over 2000 yards at home...lol), but it was fun to shop for more fabric :-D ...so she did and now to work.
It is a simple pattern from the book "Quilt Lovers' Favorites" Volume 6, but it is all applique, so i need your help now to decide on the last thing which is the placement of the flowers. Sorry the pics are not that clear but one pic shows the flowers on each leaves or just random 3-4 flowers between the leaves? Hope you can see it clearly...any opinion would help. THANKS P.S....don't stare at the quilt much....so many mistakes. It's not even funny  Here is the option of a flower on each leaves Random Placement of the flowers |
I like the random :)
I like one with each leaf. :)
I like it near the leaves
I like both...I know that's not much help...LOL :)

Like on each! Very cute!

I don't think you can have too many of the flowers, so I'd make a bunch and then start placing them around. You might find that you would skip one or two spots in each row, but I think that many flowers will look better than fewer flowers.
It will be great and she'll love it. So nice of you to let her decide! |
Every time she comes to our house she looks at the quilt on the wall and starts giggling with joy. I told her from the beginning i have many projects started so hers will be ready on time for her B-day in Nov, but when she comes and i see her smile from ear to ear....oh well i dropped the others and started to work on it so i can get it ready by this weekend so it would go in peace to gramyx7 for quilting...lol

Splash them all over. Don't try to make them all the same. This is a darling quilt. You could even put some other shapes and colors in there. Maybe add a bird or butterfly. Example here: http://tiny.cc/q2mu9

i vote for random
I thought about that but my son thinks it will be too busy....why do i even ask boy's opinions??????lol

I like the idea of adding a butterfly or dragonfly or two or three as well. To me the random arrangement is more visually pleasing especially when viewed from a distance.
i think the flowers should go on the middle of the leafs.
Make enough flowers for each set of leaves, maybe a couple extra, and then ask the girlfriend what she thinks! Ask her about the butterflies too. She will love the quilt and you even more!!!
I like the 2 rows, on the left side, in the first picture. The last picture was waaaaaaay too boring.
I think it's wonderful that your son's GF selected the pattern and the fabric. I would ask her is she would like to pin the flowers where she would like them to be.
I like the flowers at each set of leaves best. Put that up on your design wall and cut out a few extra flowers and ask her if she wants to add any more and if she does, have her place them. The design looks young and fresh!

My first choice would be randomly placed on the quilt, even down the dividing lines of fabric. If you really don't wnat to do that then I would go for a flower on most of the leaves ( BUT NOT ALL OF THEM ). I would add a little more interest by adding a few other things here and there like a bee, or butterfly, etc. Would love to see it when you finish please.

I like random, which could also include a flower being by a leaf every now and again... I also like the idea of maybe a simple butterfly or two, and or dragonfly or two...and the idea to ask her what she thinks?.. I agree about why even ask your son??..lol...I have had the same issue...and yet at times I still ask his opinion...sigh... :-) Aren't we the nice moms??...
Anyways, it is lovely already, and I didn't see a "so many mistakes" as you put it...great job! Kif |
Thanks :)

Though I would ordinarily say random about these things, on this one, I like a flower on each leaf.
May I suggest controlled random? Like a couple commenters suggested, one on most leaves, but not on all. And put an offset pair in a few spots. I think a butterfly might compete with the flowers, but a few ladybugs on the vines and or bees flying about might be an unobtrusive but whimsical touch.
At every leaf and more - may be different flowers on some.
I vote for each leaf. I like the colors of the flowers and I think it adds something to the quilt.
I like the random but would be cute if some of each were placed........
If you are like me, random doesn't work; it never looks random or balanced.
I'd go for a flower near every set of leaves. |
I like a flower with each leaf set.
I like it on the leaves.
I like the flowers on the leaves because that is usually where a flower is.
I like the random, but I think you need more or maybe a variation in sizes. Love the colors!
What an adorable quilt. I, too, enjoyed a flower at each set of leaves. I also love the idea of a random butterfly, and/ or dragonfly.
Ultimately, what does SHE think? That's what really matters :) You are so sweet to do this for her. |
