So... what exactly is this box full of? I'm going to assume that it's a hand quilting setup of some sort, maybe? I received it from a friend's mother along with a ton of fabric. The fabric I can use, but I don't do any handwork. If I knew what it was, I could offer it up on Freecycle or something similar. Thanks!

Those are embroidery hoops.
Look like tapestry/embroidery frames!! The square one is definitely a tapestry frame, you slot the tapestry into the frame, then roll it as you work design.
The big oval is a quilting hoop, the square one with the wingnuts is a frame to hold your cross stitch while working on it. The long pieces that look like T's are the legs to one of the frames so you don't have to hold it in your hand. Others look like plain embroidery hoops.

Thank you all very much! That was exactly what I needed to know and I appreciate the quick responses. I've put them up on Freecycle, so hopefully they'll be on their way to someone who can use them soon. :)

Those are embroidery hoops. I would love to have them. Just made a basket of flowers and could not find a large hoop in the stores close by.
The rectangular one can also be used for needlepoint etc. The rest -without knowing the sizes - are embroidery and the large oval appears to be large enough for hand quilting.
You might offer them up for sale here - lots of ladies do hand work here. |
The large ovals and circle ones with wing nuts are hand quilting hoops. The one I bought some time ago was $25.00 for a smaller one. You might want to keep one or two in case you ever want to try hand quilting. Hand quilting is a great take along project.
Unfortunately, the size of the box would probably make it very cost prohibitive to ship.
Also, space in the house is at an all-time premium and I can't afford to use it storing these items. Everything has to be stored in my small bedroom. |
Will they fit under a bed or sofa? The quilting hoops can be expensive to buy.
I don't have the option of storing anything outside my room and under my bed is clothes storage. Also, handwork really does drive me right off the deep end and I don't see myself ever putting any time or effort into it. Better that they go to someone who will appreciate them. :)

They are embroidery hoops
check with the post office and see if you can not box them for mailing just tape together and ship. if sewfind dosen't take somebody elas on here will love them ME.
I have several of them and only bought them on sale as they can be quite expensive. Are you looking to donate them or sell them, as I go to an assisted living facility with my Service/Licensed Pet Therapy dog, and I have started doing some handiwork with some of the residents, and I know that they could definitely use them. They appear to be larger ones, and the designs I have been painting on fabric tend to be larger then normal so those with bad vision can see what they are doing.
Please let me know. Suezq |

The long straight one is for needlepoint. I have done more than 30 needle point pictures from 8 x 10 to 30 x 40 over the years and there are many different size needlepoint frames. You slip the canvas into the split sides and twist the round dowels until your surface is taught and then you screw the metal nuts till they are tight. As you complete the section you are working on, you loosen it, twist and start needle pointing on the next section. I thought quilting would be easier...it is NOT just much bigger and different.

Jennalyn, if you get no takers or Freecycle, let me know. I can always be tempted to come to your part of the world. Didn't get my fill of crabs when I was OC a couple of weeks ago!
The rectangular items are more for tapestry/needlepoint and the smaller rounds and ovals are for embroidery or cross-stitch. (some of the rectangular will work for that too) and the big oval is for quilting. And not exclusively for hand quilting. I've heard of people placing the sandwich in the hoop and then machine FMQ it.
Yeah I wouldn't mind a road trip for some of those hoops and some crabs and of course maryland corn.. message me if you want to get rid of them.
it looks like the box of things in my sewing room. one of them is an oval quilting frame with it's stand,. I have bought several at yard sales and was so thankful because they are pricey to buy. I agree with checking out your assisted living residences, if you are giving them away.

I had several interested parties message me from Freecycle, the first of which is actually taking them to an assisted living community where she works. :) Thank you for your help, everyone! They're going home with her tonight.
Depending on how thick the hoops are, they look like hand quilting hoops. If they are thin, and therefore can't possibly accommodate the thickness of a quilt, they are embroidery hoops.
They are frames for quilting etc. If you decide to get rid of them let me know. i would love to have them.
Thanks, Jean |

Jennalyn, I looked up an embroidery guild in your area of MD and found one. The hoops in your box are mostly for embroidery projects and you could contact this lady and her EGA group to see if they would like to have them. If you would like to be paid for them, tell her, she would know the value, I am sure. Contact:
[email protected] at Centreville, MD or http:www.marega.org/easternshore.html Let us know if you reach her. I will look at a map and see where both of your towns are located. Hope the embroidery guild members can use them, EGA members are always looking for new hoops to use. Carol J. |
they are emboriery and cross stitching hoops .i have the exate same ones for crosstiching
Looks like they are embroidery hoops - there may even be a floor model one judging by the thicker pieces (look like they could be the leg/feet?

embroidery hoops and teh one with the long pieces is used for cross-stitching
Looks like hand quilting and embroidery hoops to me.
