While in the 1st class try your best to make friends and get all the phone numbers so you can get together with them or call them with a questions. New friends are fun.

Get Alex Andersen's Beginning Quilting Book. She taught me how to quilt. My first little top I ended up throwing away but still have my second one from her book.

don't forget utube there are so many quilting tutorials on there and you don't have the expense of a book. I did see that someone suggested using the normal foot for sewing, if you can adjust your needle, move it to the right and see if you get a seam closer to 1/4" This board is so helpful and you will get all the questions answered you need. Are you going to piece by hand? I didn't see that you had a machine. Anytime you can give us specific information, we can give you specific answers.

Buy a book by Eleanore Burns they range from simple to difficult and you want simple S he gives step by step instructions that I have used forever. She was a kindergarten teacher and she does not let you wonder what to do. Her books give you instructions and yardage on quilts from wall hanging to king.I have about 5 of her books and to this day I use her methods of doing my quilts.

I love to make quilts, you'll love it! Lots of fabrics to choose from, 100% cotton fabrics are best in my experience.
"Quilter's Complete Guide" by Fons and Porter is a great book for beginning quilters. Lots of clear pictures and instructions, I used to teach beginning quilting. It starts off with simple blocks and shows how to make them, everything a new quilter needs to know. I've been quilting for 25 years ,this was one of my first books; I learned from PBS quilting programs also.

The Quilt Show has a free beginners quilt-making class right now. You need to sign up for their website, but you don't have to join the part that costs money.
