HELP...with my personal Ugly Challenge...
2 Attachment(s)
For those of you who remember my personal ugly fabric challenge I have finished putting the blocks together and would like some advice on a in between border. Looking to put a one to one and a half inch border between the blocks and the original fabric. Problem is Whatcolor should I use? I like the purple in the fabric but I would have to go shopping for that if possible to find that color. next I was thinking of useing the same black as in the blocks but I thought I would like to see what you wonderful Ladies and men would think first. Thanks in advance for all your help. Oh and the original fabric border is not going to be as wide as the picture. I just layed it there to see whatit looks like. Thanks againg for looking and or helping.

I love your blocks! I do like the black and I think if you used purple you would lose the block definition. I like the blocks the way you have them now without sashing so the secondary black stars show. The stripe will make a nice border. Whatever you decide, it will be a great quilt.

You read my mind thats what I was thinking, the black to pull it all togeather. Thanks for the reply.
I vote for black. I don't think that fabric was all that ugly to start with, but you certainly made it better!!
I vote Black
Black it shall be. Thanks again and I will post more when complete.
I would leave as is and add a small maybe 1/2 inch all around white border then a larger black border to finish off, the ugly looks pretty - great job!
Black ...
Though I would audition the black, along with the purple ... black the width of the 1/2 hexie, then purple, then more black, probably the width of the first black plus the purple. Possibly wider. Then bind it off with the purple. Yes, I am thinking leave off the striped border. For a reference of the original fabric, include it on your backing. If you decide on the purple as I suggested, .... don't introduce a new fabric. Just cut the purple stripe (with seam width) from your original fabric for a perfect coordinated effort. Likewise use the original fabric for the binding. |
I like your idea I will have to check it out, Thank you.

I think the black has my vote.

I think black. Also have you thought of putting the stripe border WOF instead of LOF for border? If It is the focus fabric that you do not like then WOF would make stripes not as long. IMHO I like the blocks. Who said that you have to put a matching border on this stack n wack quilt. It is your world!

Ugly no more. Love the black

Really like your ugly(?) fabric. You have made a beautiful quilt. I also go for the black. Can't wait for the finished project. BrendaK

This might be a voice in the dark, but how about a small green border matching the green in the fabric? It will highlight the purple and then finish with a black border to tie it together. I just think that it might give enough contrast to define the edges but punch up purples. Just a thought.
I thought of that also. I will have to pull out some stash and check out a few tings. Tanks for all the replys.

I can't find the "ugly"...everything I see is gorgeous!
I vote for black, followed by a purple~~
Black for your not ugly quilt!

Who'd thunk that stripe would make such fantastic blocks? That is awesome and I love the star setting with it. Very pretty.
beautiful quilt and ugly fabric can sure turn into the swan I vote for black too
I'd do a 1 1/2" black sashing all around, then border it in a solid purple or turquoise (that is turquoise isn't it?). Personally I'd go for the purple :) Then I'd do a pretty e2e design in the center w/a separate border using grapes on a vine design.

Great quilt. I vote for black.
I like it just the way it is with no sashing in between the blocks.
Nothing UGLY about that one.
White. I think if you use black, the secondary pattern of stars will be distorted. Love the quilt, and it will look good regardless of the border

Another vote for black here. Don't think I'd consider it ugly at all, you have done a beautiful job.
I like it just the way it is...
I'd go for the black and leave it at that. What a huge amount of work for an"ugly"! I don't get the ugly at all. It is a beautiful quilt. Keep the border and binding simple so as to not distract from the overall beauty.

If that fabric was ugly, you turned it into a thing of beauty! Can't wait to see the finished project.

I agree stick to the black for a border. It really makes your lovely blocks pop.
I certainly don't think it is ugly. It is beautiful. No matter how you do the border.
It looks beautiful!!!! Black is my vote, too!!!
That really turned out great. Love the black. I'd finish it off with 1/2 " piano key of the striped fabric. Great job!!
