I dont know what I am doing wrong. My walking foot doesnt seem to go anywhere unless I pull it through. I do better without the walking foot. ????

Jim's Gem 09-22-2010 06:50 PM

Is the little lever on your walking foot hooked to the needle screw?
This is how it lifts the foot to make the "walking" action.

seazteddy 09-22-2010 07:05 PM

Yes, I took it to the local store to make sure I had installed it right and they said I had but it doesnt feed unless I pull it thru. I don't understand.

grammyp 09-22-2010 07:08 PM

Are your feed dogs up?

tjradj 09-22-2010 08:24 PM

Your local store should do more for you than just say it's installed ok. Get them to find out what the problem is - especially if it's where you bought it from.

MadQuilter 09-22-2010 08:29 PM

Did you increase the stitch length a little?
Can you adjust the pressure at all?
Are the feed dogs up?
Does the machine work fine with the same settings but with a regular foot?

purplefiend 09-22-2010 08:34 PM

You shouldn't have to pull it through, something isn't working properly.

EasyPeezy 09-22-2010 10:33 PM

Maybe if you tell us what machine you are using someone could help you
more. I know that on my Janome the upper feed mechanism must be fully engaged otherwise it won't sew.

seazteddy 09-23-2010 05:59 PM

It is singer, older one about 20 years old. but works great. I cant adjust anything.
Yes the feed dogs are up. I have a cover but then the foot doesnt move at all. I cant even pull it thru.
It works fine with all the other feet.
I thought I had to pull it thru, then I saw others using their foot and they wern't dragging like I do.
I don't know who to go to find out what is wrong?

Maride 09-23-2010 06:16 PM

Can you post a picture of the walking foot installed?

soleegirl 09-23-2010 09:54 PM

yea i found that out AFTER i had tried to quilt..boy did i feel stupid..

seazteddy 09-24-2010 12:13 PM

I can't take a picture right now, it's in the shop and believe it or not, the guy was taking the machine out of the car and he dropped it , in the parking lot. I was speechless, he said, it is a heavy machine, it'll be ok. So the problem with this machine maybe not a problem if the machine is damaged. I don't know what to do if it is damaged, it is too old to be replaced.??? I don't want a new one, I want my old one not to have been dropped. I never dropped it in 25 years. Anyway when I get it back I'll take a picture.

sylviak 09-24-2010 12:39 PM

If they dropped it, they should fix it, replace it or pay you for it. Don't let them tell you it's an old machine so we can't give you much for it. I'd go for replacement and a newer machine if they can't fix it.

EasyPeezy 09-24-2010 12:57 PM

Yikes. Sound like they might have damaged your machine and they
should make it good. Fix it or replace it.

purplefiend 09-24-2010 02:39 PM

EEEEKK!!! They dropped your machine???? :x

I would make sure they pay you somehow if your machine is damaged.

nativetexan 09-24-2010 02:53 PM

No, they owe you a new machine. someone dropped my old Singer long ago but they did fix it.the lady called me and said she picked it up off the floor and it rattled. it didn't rattle before i took it to them, so someone had to have dropped it. talk to the manager.
and then have them show you how to work the foot there in the shop.

seazteddy 09-25-2010 09:28 AM

They acted like it was not a big deal. I am so worried, because it is not replaceable. I am nervous waiting to hear what they find. The other problem is that I don't want to get another machine from them. Oh well, wait and see.

Bobbin along 09-25-2010 10:08 AM

I would be LIVID!!! Don't let them tell you "Oh, it's OK," and he hadn't even looked at it! I would have them fix it, then have them sit down with you and the machine and let you test sew on it--and then demand a hefty discount on the bill. I would also probably mention that I have a LOT of quilting friends and that they would probably be hearing about their little 'mishap!" (Boy, I sound like a B*****, but that's your 'baby' they just dropped on its head!) :hunf: :hunf:

purplefiend 09-25-2010 05:28 PM

bobbin along,
You don't sound like a B**** at all, its only sensible that if a dealer/repair tech drops your machine, that they have the responsiblilty to make restitution.

annette1952 09-25-2010 05:47 PM

Sorry this happened to your machine. Hopefully you get it back soon, as good as new!

sew wishful 09-25-2010 06:00 PM

My walking foot quit walking once...after about 4 quilts! I looked it over and over...the lever that sits on the needle screw thingy (LOL) was sticking in the up position! I could move it easily with my finger, but on the machine it would stick up more often that falling back down as the needle went down. I asked myself what would it hurt to put a drop of machine oil into it, since it wasn't working anyway. I did it and it has been working ever since!

If someone dropped my machine I most certainly would be livid and would demand replacement/repair and then test drive it while there and not just a drive around the block...have them set up a spot where you can sew for at least 30 minutes. Bring in a project to work on...something you do much of...straight stitching or other type stitches you use. Try out every feature your machine has to be sure everything works!! Sure hope you got that mans name who dropped your machine! Or followed him inside so that everyone there knew he'd dropped it.

costumegirl 09-25-2010 06:20 PM

Sorry to hear about your machine.

I had a walking foot that did not work. I took it to the dealer and she said that it was broken and would not engage. I had to buy a new one.
