help need to square up and put boarders on 3-d quilt

I finally completed my 3-D quilt from Ruth Ann Berry's project book "Echoes" it is made up of equilateral triangles. the trouble is the top and bottom have a ragged triangle edge and if I square it , it will come to close to the 3-d subject matter how can I add a boarder without it affecting the 3-d look. please help
thak you

you could use some of the border fabric to "fill in" the jagged edges the triangles make. then add that same color border on. good luck.

Yes this could work really well.....make it look like your triangles are overlapping or sitting on top of your border.

I will be watching here. I have this book, and will be doing at least one of the projects. I will probably encounter the same issue.

Pinterest has some ideas, but most don't include borders

how will I sew that so it is overlapped with a 1/4 seem

the added pieces won't really overlap. they will fill the open areas between the triangles and have a flat outer edge. just like most blocks do before adding borders. Should work. try it somewhere. do it on paper first to get comfortable and then go for it.

this might help too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcHLmqdMkMU
setting triangles and corner triangles. If you had a pattern, that should have included this to finish your sides of your quilt.

overlap. If you really want them to overlap, you could place your fabric beneath the quilt and stitch down onto the "border" fabric. Best I can do with suggestions.

Do you mean border or binding?

thanks that will help

Could you cut the background edge pieces larger for the top and bottom. One triangle will overlap the next, but you should be able to trim to a straight edge.

I made a similar quilt that had top and bottom edges like your quilt. I simply bound them in that zig zag way and I love the look of it. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I am off to work this morning but will attempt posting a pic tonight.

Consider facings instead of binding.

It seems I am not having any luck posting a photo. If you like, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send it that way. I will understand if you are reluctant to do that.

I like that quilt dunster I might get that . I fixed my 3-d quilt by adding two additional 3 inch triangles to each column on the top and bottom that will give me the look I need for attaching the boarder.
