help need to square up and put boarders on 3-d quilt

Exclamation help need to square up and put boarders on 3-d quilt

I finally completed my 3-D quilt from Ruth Ann Berry's project book "Echoes" it is made up of equilateral triangles. the trouble is the top and bottom have a ragged triangle edge and if I square it , it will come to close to the 3-d subject matter how can I add a boarder without it affecting the 3-d look. please help

you could use some of the border fabric to "fill in" the jagged edges the triangles make. then add that same color border on. good luck.

Yes this could work really well.....make it look like your triangles are overlapping or sitting on top of your border.

I will be watching here. I have this book, and will be doing at least one of the projects. I will probably encounter the same issue.

Pinterest has some ideas, but most don't include borders

how will I sew that so it is overlapped with a 1/4 seem

the added pieces won't really overlap. they will fill the open areas between the triangles and have a flat outer edge. just like most blocks do before adding borders. Should work. try it somewhere. do it on paper first to get comfortable and then go for it.

setting triangles and corner triangles. If you had a pattern, that should have included this to finish your sides of your quilt.

overlap. If you really want them to overlap, you could place your fabric beneath the quilt and stitch down onto the "border" fabric. Best I can do with suggestions.
