Remember, no all patterns are created accurate--including those in books or on web sites. If something doesn't fit, it probably is in the error of the creator. Redraft on graph paper.

It would seem to me that the three squares should all measure the same. rather than the center one being 2 1/2".

Thank you very much.

I copied the photo on Moda's website and revised to show what your strips should have looked like after you put them together, before trimming the ends. The extra half-inch really is needed sometimes by some people. I know that the feeddogs on my machine occasionally "shrink" a strip by a very small amount. If you don't have that little bit extra, your end blocks would end up being trimmed off. |
In the comments section below the quilt instructions there is a post saying that the pattern had been corrected as of yesterday 4/3/2011. I didn't do the math but apparently you are not the only one that was having issues with it.

This may sound off the wall, but I would make the blocks and then adjust the strips accordingly to get the width measurements correct and work on down. Sounds like you've gotten the right answers from other folks.

Thank you to everyone who has commented and offered help. I am on my way to getting it done...going to forget the math. Do the squares and add strips then trim off

have to say thanks to you for this pattern...even though it has a few problems it seems to be an easy quick pattern sew thanks again for the questions you asked and I will try this quilt also..........

This seams to help me. When this happens I turn over the block and carefully check each seam. Some times I have got the seam wider in places. Also check the block after you cut the pieces. The first steps are where you learn the most. Best of luck to you.

The link has a period at the end that does not belong there. Click the link then back off the period at the end and the page will come up.
