HOWEVER!!! The measurements were all wrong. If I followed the grid when cutting, I got wavy, wonky lines. I got sick and tired of having to measure everything with a yardstick and just bought a new mat.

Beware of using a car surface they are not really flat.

Thanks, I may try that. I bought a big cutting mat that was rolled and it never has quite flattened out. Annoying.

Don't feel bad about having a warped cutting mat because you accidentally ironed over it. Been there, done that. Because I have limited space, I have my cutting mat on my table and do try to move the mat before I iron, but sometimes I don't push it back far enough. I use a hot pad fabric wrapped with muslin for an ironing surface, as I don't have room for the ironing board in my sewing area, unfortunately. When I realized what I had done, I put the ironing blanket back on the table over the mat, then used steam to unwarp it, it seems to have worked so far. Putting it in the hot sun makes sense too.

My dh ironed his cutting mat; heard about putting it on the driveway in the hot Texas sun...and he tried that.

Then wondered why his quilt blocks did not match mine on the same pattern...

His no longer measured true. So WATCH OUT. Check the measurements before trying to cut out pieces for a quilt. Not all cutting boards and rulers are equal in their measurements...we learned to check them out before buying them the hard way.

you can send it to me...today is to be 106 and over 105 for the next week.....It should flatten it out plenty!!

That's a good idea. I have a warped one that I got at an estate sale for $1. I know today was only 81. I can't wait until it gets at least into the 60's.

In texas it would probably melt in 105 degree weather
lol lol lol :-D :-D :-D

Send it my way. It was 111 today on our patio.

Mine warped because IT WAS in the sun, but but poorly supported on a box!
I should put it back in the sun and try!

My Cut 'N Press II warped cause I ironed on the ironing side of it, but the cutting side warped. Will this un-warp the cutting side??

kaykwilts 08-28-2011 04:54 AM

Thanks for this idea. I did the same thing to one of my mats (warped it with a hot iron) and it's just been sitting behind a table every since. Thank you for the tip on how to restore it. I think it is still plenty hot here in Texas to "unwarp" my mat...

I bought one on my lunchhour in the hot summer in Fl. and when I came out of work later it was all crooked and I've never been able to fix it. I will try this but will have to wait to get not the 90's the cooler temp unless I could bring it into the AC.I think I'll try it, it would be good if it works. Good Luck. Sue
